good news !!! need more help
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:41:33 PM »
Hi:

I changed the hd (i had a working extra HD from many years ago)
and same problem, so I assumed the acellerator is whats bad.
I swapped my accelerator (from 030/50 to a 020)for the spare:
Volia !!! NOw amiga boots into the -insert disk image screen-
I press mouse buttons ---> boot display screen comes up working
after I choose boot gets into the -insert disk image screen-.
I am not good at this, so I tried inserting my original workbench disk
(first one)but I get a red guru, I might be using the wrong disk.
THis happening is very encouraging !!!
Now I feel there is a chance to salvage my amiga.
In the insert disk screen , it says system/wb is 3.0
Can anyone help me save my precious amiga 1200 ?

thank you all !!!

haha what is there to "save" its working man! Do you have a game you can try to load. Weird that it would guru with the workbench disk. What happens with no accelerator board installed?

The workbench disks should not be giving you a guru.

But at least it seems your system is fine. Maybe the workbench disk is faulty or your floppy drive is damaged or dirty.

Did you try any other disks you may have to see if they load? Games, software, anything.

If they load then your floppy drive is fine and your workbench disk is not.

With regards to the accelerator, you could try pressing any socketed chips down as they may have come loose over time. You can also try cleaning the edge connector on the Amiga using a PCC (Printed circuit cleaner). You can use that to clean the slot of the accelerator too.

Hi:

I tried loading a game. The floppy disk drive is not working.
the floppy disk light does not lit, and the drive does not read the disk.
But the first time i tried loading the workbench disk
it did try to read but it got the guru.
I will try checking it tomorrow, too tired to do it today.
Any thoughts/tips on fixing the floppy disk drive ?
I never fixed it before, so tell me what I shall look for.
Thank you !!!

Did you try another disk? Just because 2 of your disks dont work doesnt mean the drive is bad.. just search inet for cleaning amiga floppy
