Delurking Alert: New member incoming!
« on: December 05, 2011, 12:32:18 AM »
Hey Fellow Amigans,

I've been a proud member of the Amiga faithful since ~1989, and a long time reader and lurker of Amiga sites since around 1994/95. I've enjoyed keeping up to date with all the twists and turns we've endured over the years, but mostly kept to myself.  I'm generally the type to keep out of the way (less likely to get flamed that way!), unless I feel I've got something useful to contribute.

Well, it seems that in a few days or weeks (touch wood), I will indeed - finally! - have something very unique and interesting to contribute :)

That's because I am, very soon, hoping to be the proud new owner of one of MikeJ's fantastic new FPGA Replay Arcade boards!  If you're anything like me, you may be full of questions about this remarkable new board and how it works, etc.  There's a lot to learn about this board's capabilities. But I think I'm finally getting to grips with it all now and would like to share what I've learnt :)

There are some very good threads about the board over here at Amiga.org, but they're so large it can be hard to easily find what you're looking for.  So my intention is to make myself useful by setting up a website/blog and YouTube Channel in order to help document my own findings with the FPGA Replay, and to share with you all some of my discoveries in a neat, presentable fashion.   I'll also aim to contribute to the FPGA Replay-related discussions here at Amiga.org as best I can.

If I can force myself to act, I plan to set up FAQ's and information pages, based upon what I know so far, and once the board arrives, upload pictures and videos of the board in action so you can all better see for yourselves what it's capable of, etc.

Last of all: I also have a little something extra special to share - in the form of an  recorded but unreleased interview I did a few years back with a certain former Amiga celebrity.  I plan to tidy this up and release it in the near future.  I regret not releasing it before now, but I had some 'troubles' with a certain Amiga company (who shall remain nameless, but which you can probably guess the name of since they seem extremely skilled at causing maximum pain, inconvenience and difficulty to anyone they've ever have any sort of dealing or communication with!)

So basically, now I feel I've got something to share, I wanted to create an account and get sharing.  So, in brief: please forgive my 16 or so years of silence but I now aim to make up for that total lack of quantity, with total quality now

Howdy all, look forward to hanging and chatting with you cool guys more often :)

Thank you for the warm welcome, guys! :)

I must admit, I am really excited about getting an FPGA Replay Board! I feel like I'm a little kid again, getting over-excited about a new game or gizmo I'm expecting for Christmas!

Is that normal for folks around here? I know I haven't felt this way since I was expecting that A1200 for Christmas, all those years ago! :)

I thought it'd be useful to post stuff about the Replay board, because MikeJ is trying to cope with just about every request and question from every angle, in-between programming for the thing, providing support, and doing a full-time job as well.  Perhaps when I have a board in my mitts, I might be able to help save the guy from an avalanche of questions.  (I must admit, I have sure contributed to that avalanche in recent weeks :roflmao:)

Welcome and congrats on your purchase of the FPGA Arcade Replay board.  I received mine from MikeJ just before the AmiWest 2011 Show and had it displayed for all to play with during the entire length of the show.  It received a mild amount of interest, but that was only due to the many other Amiga things going on during the show and my lack of time to promote it more vigorously because I was busy with MorphOS, the Natami booklet, and the AROS 68k boot floppy, CD media packages.

The Replay is a great little board with lots of power and expandability for the future.  MikeJ just announced that he will have more of his daughter board pcb's some time in January, so I am hoping to get one of those by the end of 1st Quarter of 2012.  I have my 68060 CPU sitting here ready to install into it as soon as it arrives.

It is a great system with tons of potential at a very reasonable price.  As for your excitement, you are not alone.  I can hardly contain my excitement about getting a new First Contact AmigaOne X1000 system from A-Eon and AmigaKit some time in the next month.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
