Apollo 040 SCSI-II controller

I have an Apollo 040 with SCSI controller for my A1200. Since I've owned this I have not owned any SCSI devices till now. Now I'm wondering if I need any software to get this up and running, or will I simply need to plug in my hardware, install and configure ASIMCDFS (since it's a CD-ROM) and use it to my hearts content?
