Essential Applications for Amiga OS 3.0
« on: October 28, 2011, 09:04:11 PM »
Hi,

My hard disk recently failed and i had no back up. :-(

I have brought a 4GB Compact Flash card to use as a HDD and will be installing Workbench 3.0 to it very soon.

I want to download all of the essential applications, this includes IDE drivers, Compact flash drivers, music players, graphic programs, word processors, disk copying programs, HD programs and any other utilities which are useful.

This is where i need your help!

Can you please give me the names of the very best application in a category and provide a download link if possible.

I really need help!!

Thank you :-)

Yes, so a fresh 3.1 install then install BetterWB before doing anything else. :)

Oh sorry, I lead you astray, I failed to read that important detail in your post.

No, I do not believe it will (according to the web page).

Cheap clone roms are available on Ebay though. ;)

I installed and used BetterWB on an A1200 with 4MB RAM and 3.0 ROMs the other night, it works fine.

I'm working on my own Workbench pack with all the programs you need pre-installed,  it's just taking a little time, but it's going to be a community project where people can contribute. Similar to ClassicWB and AmigaSYS except with more user input. Anyway, I think you should download and try both of those setups too. You can either install them on separate partitions, or just do the old swap-around and keep one system inside a temporary drawer while you boot from the other. But try them both, see which setup you like more. Both are packed with pre-installed software and are worth trying. BetterWB is more of a bare-bones system add-on, it's useful but you will still need to install all your own additional software.

And there you have it!!!

BTW, if you have something like a 50Mhz what ever isntalled, then Dopus Magellan would be a novel move, or as Cammy noted, there is ClassicWB and AmigaSys which are pretty damn cool too!

Oh ya, Final Writer is my Word Processor of choice and OctaMED Sound Studio is my Musick App/Player of Choice.

As for Hard Drives...

PFS!!! It's free now!!! :)

Oh, and you'll want a nifty compression tool:

MiraWizARC 10 which you can now get from my page:
(aminet release can be buggy)

http://starwarslegacy.net/Documents/MiraWizARC10.lha

Combine that with LHA-LZX-ZIP-TAR-GZIP-DMS from Aminet and you are set in that department.

Have you heard of Grunch?

http://www.geit.de/deu_grunch.html

It is a package-manager for MorphOS and 68k (I do not know if the  AmigaOS-Version works) that offers easy installation and is updateable  (Script). I am already working on the extension of the 68k database.

I have a page where I offer a manual to update distributions like  amikit or amigasys.
http://www.natami-news.de/html/support.html

And I am integrating most of the downloads successful in Grunch. What do  you think? Grunch is not dependent on a certain distribution (it is based on MUI)

Are there files missing in my list you would like to have integrated? I  will try to integrate it in Grunch then.
