Vxl 30
« on: August 30, 2011, 07:58:00 PM »
So, I got a VXL30 and an A500 on the way. The VXL30 is missing the CPU, FPU and 68k and CHip number 5 according to the manual. Whats chip #5? And how do you install it into an A500 that will have KS 3.1 in it?
My machines:

Mac Mini C2D 10.6.8 2GHz 3GB 250GB HDD
MacBook Retina 16GB 256GB SSD 10.8
iPad 2

Need a part for a PC or Mac? PM me, I\'ll let you know if I come across it.

MorphOS, OS4 and Classic Amiga systems are the only ones who are real \'Amigas\', not that joke AROS or Amiga Forever.

Hi,

@dreamcast270mhz,

Ok, it has been 10 years since I had a VXL30, but mine was a 68030 @ 40mhz, they also made them in 25 mhz, 30mhz versions. It is a card and just plugs into the 68000 socket, I can't remember if it had a red wire on it that connected to a 5 volt power source. I will try to look in my old records and see if I made a copy of anything, since I usually sent the manuals and disks with the product when I sell it. I did at one time have a huge copy of all materal that I had bought, but moving from Florida to Pennsyltucky lost a lot of my computer stuff, or it got packed in some other box.

I have no idea what your talking about, so here is a doggy with a small pancake on his head.

MorphOS is a MAC done a little better

No wire gets connected to a +5v power source. Gets all its power straight from the 68k socket. The wire you might be thinking of gets soldered from one of the PAL chips to a point on the RAM daughtercard that was necessary in some early revisions if you had a DMA capable SCSI card in your system.

The chip that's missing is probably a PAL, so good luck finding a replacement  :(

I have a VXL 30, as per above. But as I've found useless without the memory daughterboard. Have traveled many a road to find the RAM board, but either it's too expensive or the deal is not worth it.

Looking at the hires photo at:
http://amiga.resource.cx/photos/photo2.pl?id=vxl30&pg=2&res=hi&lang=en

Can you identify where U5 is? (The legend is a bit hard to read).

Looks to me like the chip in the bottom right hand corner of the main board, in which case it would be a 74F126?

You may have trouble finding one of those, the 74F125 (with negative buffer enables) is much more common.
An LS part may suffice, and are still easily available:

Manuals regarding install can be found at the amiga resource site.

Hope this helps,
