amiga 4000 reseting itself

hello

Need some info on amiga 4000 rev b.
It keeps reseting itself when i boot it up into normal screen showing insert disc anyone have any ideas why its doing this its reckon my head

tryed that and the screen freezes for a few minutes then goes off but i did notice that the power led flashes?. any more ideas m8

Like all these types of problems to me the best way to try and solve them (and it saves a lot of mucking about in the long term) is to disconnect and remove everything you can first HDs, floppy drives etc... :)

Then one by one put each item back in until the problem occurs. That way you can usually quite easily find out if something is faulty or even if the PSU is on the way out... ;)

I know it sounds like a lot of bother to go to but I've always found rather than spending days or weeks of head scratching it's better to spend a few hours doing things this way and usually 9 of 10 times you'll find the problem a lot quicker... :)

When i load workbench up its fine but if i dont it crashes on insert disc screen is that the roms not working properly?.

I take it you mean that when you boot up with the workbench floppy already in the drive then all works fine but if you wait for the insert disc screen it crashes before you get a chance to insert the floppy... :)

The trouble with a problem like that is, it could be lots of things causing it from faulty ROMS/ loose cables flakey PSU etc...

Like I say the only real way to find out is remove all hardware and test things by re-inserting them one at a time and before even doing that, checking all socketed chips and cables are firmly and properly in place... :)

Honestly you'll save yourself a lot of time in the long run by checking these things first... :)

Not likely. If the ROM is bad, it won't get that far.
