CD Freeze issues

Hi all

Nearly got my Amiga just how I want it but am having a problem with some CD's now.

It appears some CD's with a disc.info file lock up workbench.
It doesn't fully lock up. I can't open any icons but any apps that were open are still useable. I can also right click to bring up the menu bar but it won't let me select anything.

My current setup is
A1200 Viper 1260 64mb ram OS3.9 (Boingbags 1 to 4) AmigaSys 4(+update), squirrel scsi. 8gb cf card , HxC Floppy emulator

I have tried different cd file systems but they all do the same.
Any ideas?

bumping this up with the hopes of getting an answer and to add a bit of information.

It appears I was wrong about it only happening to cds with a disc.info on the root. It is mostly these discs that cause it but a couple seem to work without issue.

What has changes since it worked last time?

Please try OS 3.9 with official boing bags (1+2) only and without AmigaSYS.

Is the cd drive when this lock up happens making a noise like it's constantly spinning & trying to read something from the CD

If so it could just be that the drives optical head is slightly out of alignment and struggling to read some of your disks, which with some filesystems grind things like disk accessing to a halt as it constantly tries in vain to read the disk and can go into an endless loop bringing all access to the disk to a halt including a lot of the time access to the HD...

Franko the cd drive seems to sound normal. I also appear to have disc access I can even access the files on the disc and harddrive using an app like diskmaster even though the workbench screen has locked up.
I am just prevented from clicking on icons and using the menu bar.

Thomas I took your advice and started with a fresh install of OS3.9. That seemed to work. Then I tried a fresh install of Amiga sys and again CD's are working fine.
So I guess the problem lies within one of the boingbags.

When it was freezing I tried bypassing the startup-sequence and just using loadwb from cli. Still got a freeze. I also disabled the wbstartup folder again it froze.

I guess the next step is to install the boingbags and see which one causes it to freeze.

It'll be interesting & handy to know after you install the boingbags to find out which one is causing the problem, please let us know the results...

It's boing bag 3 or 4 that causes the problem.

I have reinstalled sys os3.9 boing 1 and 2

No freezing. I can't be bothered installing 3 and 4 now it's all working

Thanks for that info, I've never installed BB4, gonna give it a try later and see if I can replicate the problem and if so try and track down the cause...
