68k Beta-Demoversion of DigiBoosterPro released
« on: February 21, 2011, 02:46:33 PM »
In addition to the recently presented Beta version of DigiBooster 3 for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS you will now get the 68k version for AmigaOS 3.x !

This one was successfully tested with version 3.0 and 3.1 with and without graphics boards and even different WinUAE configurations. Have fun!

Yes, that's true. DigiBooster 3 cannot be expected to be faster than DigiBoosterPro 2.x due to MUI usage and more advanced player. There is some room for improvements however, if demand for 68k version will be high. On the other hand limiting DigiBooster 3 future development to weak, 20 years old processors is not the right way. All CPU hungry features will be made optional, but for serious DigiBooster 3 usage a PowerPC based machine running MorphOS or AmigaOS 4 is recommended. WinUAE on an x86 is a solution too.

"if demand for 68k version will be high."

Well I'd love to see a new tracker for the old machines, with AHI of course.
Either way, great news for music people in Amigaland.

I tried the 68k version. Looks nice. You should consider adding some example songs to the download.

Here is how it looks / works from my AmiKIT. It opens any DBM modules and plays all well :)

Sweet!, Anyone try it on a real 68k Amiga yet?. How about you Goose? You have an 040 and a graphics card.

Snapshot:

Looking at the snapshot it seems like you haven't run the installation script, so the default theme is only partially loaded, giving some nasty GUI effects like additional spacing here and there and missing textures.

Correct. Just started. And also - this is not default theme. I opened prefs and changed from default theme to another one, available to chose. I will try to install using the script.
Also you will need to put new icons on installation. Old ones are present currently.

There is no common icon standard for AmigaOS 3, other than the 4-color set provided by Commodore on system disks. I've just choosen one of popular (but by no mean official) standards, MagicWB namely. NewIcons are not standard as well, and they also have some sub-flavours. Providing alternative icon sets has rather low priority, taking into account all important features missing in the program yet :).

Would adding in Indivision ECS support for this help any you think? I.E. take some of the load off the graphics display? Or am I thinking wrong? It seems to have given the lastest ADOOM a boost.

Maybe. I've read Indivision ECS adds some chunky modes. But then DB3 does not need chunky mode per se, as it does not make any 3D graphics. What DB3 does is excessive amount of 2D scrolling on large screen areas. I guess Indivision has no 2D blitter built-in.
