WTB: bulk lots of boxed Amiga software
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:38:03 AM »
Bulk, as in many and on_the_cheap! Not looking to re-sell either, just have this burning desire to forever collect vintage Amiga stuff. Added another 26 today to my collection of 125 boxed titles. 151 titles... I don't think I ever saw that many all at once at an Amiga dealer back in the day :)

I'll have to make up a list sometime soon to share. Anyone else here love collecting and displaying their boxed software?

Having the original boxed software with all the documentation that originally came inside the box is the best, but it is costly and takes up a lot of space.

I have not been buying any software lately, but was in that collector mode for a few years and have about 450 boxed titles here on shelves.  My greatest fear is that most of them are dieing from bit rot and that I will not be able to use them as I have not taken the time to backup all those floppy disks.  Plus, backing up NDOS games is still a mysterious art to me that I need to master before it is too late and all my disks are bad with errors.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

450? Holy smokes man! That has got to look really impressive all out on display. Would love to see some pics if possible. Are you at a point yet where you'd consider selling or trading some of it off? And I hear you about the NDOS copying, but since we have many of these titles in WHDload format, still nice to have the box and docs, even if the disk gets trashed.

Way back about 97/98 I used to have a spare room in the house where I had some 2300+ boxed titles on display that I had been collecting since 86. Couldn't even display all of them properly had to stack them two deep... :)

Then the missus at the time got fed up with it all and I had to convert them to DMS/ADFs and either gave away most of them and some even want to the dump... :(

I did start collecting again after I got rid of the missus this time around 2002/03 but when I moved to my new wee house at the end of 2004 I didn't have the space and couldn't even give the new collection away. I remember taking them to the dump and watching as the workers there took great delight throwing them at each other like frizzbees... :)

These days every thing is stored on HDs & DVDs but I do miss the manuals though but I do have my original SNES boxed RPG games that take pride of place these days... :)

Id probably be lucky to have 30 original/boxed bits of amiga software at the moment, but it is something I can see myself collecting more heavily once I find myself a few more bits of hardware Im after or my a1200. I dont now if it's just me, but I find I tend to put more time into software if I have the packaging, both games and apps. For me there's just something more appealing about having physical packaging vs. data on a harddrive. I've used pirated software over the years, and even enjoyed that software sometimes, but for whatever reason I tend to find myself usually able to get more absorbed in software when it's more than just data on a harddrive.
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.
