OS3.9 Help Request
« on: February 15, 2011, 09:29:14 AM »
Hey all

I just did a fresh install of OS3.9 because my hardrive was getting cluttered with junk and i didn't know what needed and what was useless.

I then installed Boing Bag 1 2 3 and 4.

Next I installed Amiga sys 4 and it's update.

Which brings me to 2 questions

1 - I forgot to back up my startup-sequence before installing Amiga Sys 4. When I installed BB3 it advised that I add 2 lines to replace the existing setpatch line. These 2 lines have now gone. Do I need them and does anyone know what they were?
Something about loading modules and skipping modules

2 - Something in the install has stopped my Workbench prefs working correctly. I did have some drives hidden and the volume bar on windows also disabled. Even though in the Workbench prefs I still have this setup, it is not happening in workbench itself. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?

Please not I have not added any other software and not made any other changes to the startup or user startup (I tell a lie I disabled the birdie prefs thing that was added with amigasys because it caused things that I didn't like)

I am thinking of getting rid of Amiga Sys and adding the features that I like manually. It's only the boot sound and image and the tinymeter menu system that I like to be honest.

I think you're supposed to start with Amigasys (setup from 3.1 floppy/adf's) and use the updater script within Amigasys to update to OS3.9 (this is what I did and have no problems) and then you can add the BB's.

Have you tried Classic Workbench OS3.9?

I really like this pack :)

Thanks fitzsteve
That makes sence actually.
Guess I'll have to start things again.

I was switching between using a PC with WINUAE and a real amiga for installation because I can't get my CD drive working on the amiga to install OS3.9 and I havent got any workbench adfs just the real 3.0 discs. So things did get messy and confusing.

I suppose I'll be able to download the adfs from somewhere

Havent tried ClassicWB os3.9. Will have to give it a try.

CWB OS3.9 is very nice, my default OS for the A4000 now as it has everything I need.

Installation works the other way round for CWB OS3.9, you need a clean OS3.9 with BB1&2 and then activate that with the CWB HDF.

After this you can add the other BB's but there are a few thing to move IIRC so maybe best to have a look in the EAB forums as there is a CWB section :)

Works great out of the box with just BB1&2 if you wanted to do a test run though.

Also when I setup my Amigasys4AGA on the A1200T I used the CD Drive in my Tower but I imagine it would also work on WinUAE, with CD Drive set up properly.

ADF's are very easy to find, look for the Amiga Tosec collection.

Steve.

Well, if you've got the 3.0 floppy disks, why not make your own ADF's from them using something like ADF-Blitzer.............

You just click on 'Read' if you want to create an ADF in your hard drive from a floppy disk inserted into your floppy drive.

OR

Click on 'Write' if you want to unpack an ADF file from your hard drive onto a floppy disk.

I've never figured out what 'Quit' is for ;)

Well I finally got round to doing this and now I'm up and running again.

I've also got Frodo (v2 I think it is) working at 100% speed with only a frameskip of 2 . So I thought I would share my setup so others might benefit.

Amiga 1200 Viper060 with 64mb ram

First installed Amiga sys with WB3.1
Then upgraded to OS3.9
Added boing bags 1 2 3 and 4
Added the following from aminet (all after setpatch in startup-sequence)
speedychip
Newwpa8
Blazewcp

Still haven't managed to get my CD drive working. I'm starting to think it might be a hardware issue with either the squirrel or PCMCIA slot. :(

I guess you know that some accelerator cards can stop the PCMCIA slot from working? Anyway, If I recall correctly, you can check if your PCMCIA slot is working by switching on your A1200 while keeping both mouse buttons held down. This will take you to the 'Amiga Early Startup Control' screen. Choose 'Boot Options...' and if you see CC0 in the 'Select Boot Device' list then you should be ok as CC0 is the PCMCIA slot :)

CC0 is listed in the early startup.

I have had the drive work fine in the past so I know it works with the accelerator.

I have a cd with a backup of my old workbench configuration somewhere so I'll see if I can restore it using that.

If not I'm going with hardware fault.

Well it looks like I have found the cause of the problem

After reverting to my old files for the squirrel and cd filesystems I was still no further foward.

Then I unplugged the squirrel and a little golden pin fell onto the floor.

So a broken PCMCIA slot appears to be the culprit.
Now somewhere I have some A1200 motherboards so it looks like some a1200 rebuilding is going to take place.

Does anybody know which revision motherboards caused the problems with Accelerators and PCMCIA slots?
