Problem with WHD load games
« on: February 19, 2011, 10:44:24 PM »
Hi all,

I hope someone can help this is driving me crazy. I picked up one off those CF HD full off games for my A1200 now because I only had 2 meg of ram most off the games would not work but with some fiddling some did. I then picked up a PCMCIA tranfer kit and installed the drivers for that on the CF HD (it is split in to 3 parts WB GAMESI, GAMESII). I then took the plunge and picked up a ACA 1230-28 card from amgia kit, I have the jumper set to kick 3.0 (thats what my rom is 3.0), I also installed the ACATune software so the amiga would pick up the right amount off ram (64meg). However now when  I go to play ANY game all I get is a black screen with some gfx errors then if I wait long enough the red box with click left mouse button. This is drving me nutz I picked up this card so I could play some game now I cant run any !!! any ideas people

Cheers

Rocky

Hi Rocky, First off, Welcome to Amiga.org :-)

Is it older, or newer games you have problems with? Some older games designed to run on Amiga 500 and the like don't play well with the 030 and extra features of your A1200 and CPU Card.

WHDLoad fortunately has some Tooltypes that can get round the problems mostly,

If you select the icon of the game you want to play, go to Icon, then information, and you can add a tooltype, then hit save.

One of the handiest commands is "NOCACHE" (without the quotes) This disables the CPUs caches and helps with a lot of titles I've found.

Which games in particular are you having problems with, I can test them on my A1200 to confirm they work. Whilst I don't have an ACA030 card, I have an older Blizzard - which has the same CPU - All things WHDLoad generally work on the 030.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me, right I have tried

CannonfodderPlus - Loads to a black screen then I get white/black boxes scrolling in a loop
Then I tried adding NOCACHE it just loads a black screen and sits there

CivAGA- Loads a black screen and sits there

Pinball Preluide - Loads a black screen and sits there

Zool2AGA - Loads a black screen with the odd bit of white flashing now and then, adding nocache has the same effect

Ishar3AGA - Loads right to software failure then machine reboots, nocache same thing

:(

Does the screen rez effect the loading at all ?. I did install the Gloom demo before I put the card in, it did not work but with the card it now works. someone else said its because I am still using kick 3.0 not 3.1, or I might have to reformat the whole thing (something I really dont want to do)

SORTED, thanks all

Retro-Nerd on the english amiga board came up with the answer, turns out my CF card has a hacked WHDload key file all I did was remove this and games started loading fine. So Iam now off to pay for WHDload, worth every penny I think. I guess thats what I get for buying on ebay
