Wanted: Cheap 040 or 060 card for A3000
« on: February 07, 2011, 06:47:31 PM »
So this is a bit of a weird request, but.. I am looking for an A3000 processor card.

What I am looking for is either an 040 or 060 card, with at least 32 megs of RAM on the board ideally.

The weird part of the request is.. I wont be able to afford it until mid March most likely.

Obviously if you have something you are looking to sell, I wouldn't expect anyone to hang on to a card that someone else is looking buy right away, but I am trying to scope out what is out there.

So if you have stuff like this lying around, and aren't in a hurry to sell it, I'd love to take it off your hands.

If its any consolation, it'd get used on a daily basis, rather than sitting in a collection or going back on ebay :)

I don't see how this request could be considered weird.

Good luck, though, there aren't a ton around that arent 3640s!  ...speaking of which, a 3640 with a 128MB ZorRAM card probably wouldn't be too horrible an option, and the 3640s generally are cheap (~$100 or so.)

Well, if you're looking for a 3000 processor card, does that mean there is a 3000 in your near future? :D

It looks like I should be the happy owner of a 3000 very soon, so yes, its exactly what I need :D

3000 is a nice machine, if sometimes a bit of a pain to track down newer custom chips (Buster, Ramsey, DMAC) for.

yeah, if all works out, I'll have a 3000 by months end :)

The 3640 and adding ZORRAM doesn't sound like a bad plan either, really.

The reason it's a weird request is mostly that its a bit in the future :)

I *might* have one available for sale in March/April.  It's a Mercury.  I would probably be keeping the RAM SIMMs off of it but youcan find those easily enough.  If you haven't found one by then let me know.  Thanks.

I'll hit you up by then and we can see :)

Would it work without the RAM, if I have fast ram either on the MB or (later) through the zorRAM card?

I'm not sure (I think it might).  All the manuals are online here:

What I am looking for is either an 040 or 060 card, with at least 32 megs of RAM on the board ideally.

I have an Apollo 3060 accellator card tucked away in an A3000 in my closet. The card has a 50MHz 060 and is  maxed out with 64M of RAM.  The A3000 woked fine for several years but by the time I put it in the closet it would run intermittently. Would work if I kept the case off.  I don't think the problem was the 060 card but I can't be sure.  In any case here is the deal I'm willing to make because I would like to get rid of the stuff and see it used if possible.  I'll send you the 060 card for the cost of shipping. Put it in you A3000 and if it works for you, you can send me whatever you think it's worth to you.  If it dosen't work for you then don't send anything and keep the board. Like I said, I'm not really looking to make money off it I would just like to get rid of some old A3000 stuff and see someone else get some enjoyment out of it.  Contact me via PM is you want the card and we can work out details.

See here:
http://amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=217
for info on the card.  As I recall it requires you to modify a line to the kickstart ROM for it to work.

Let me get back to you at the end of next week, when I know for sure if I am ending up with the 3000.
