BLIZZARD '060 2060 COMBO
« on: December 19, 2003, 03:27:53 PM »
Hi All,
        I have a Blizzard 2060 combo board I got from a friend.  I have been fooling around with it some but as yet I have not gotten it into a 2000 and fully functioning.  The manual that came with it is in German and English but the English translation suffers a bit.  There are lots of typo and spelling errors but it seems that maybe there are some errors as a result of translation.  One thing that disturbs me is that it seems to indicate that the software should be installed prior to the installation of the Blizzard board.  This seems to me to putting the cart before the horse.  Of course I have no problem with doing this if it is indeed the correct procedure.  I would like to hear from any and all who are familiar with this unit and possibly continue on with further correspondence as I try to get this thing fully functional.  Thanks.

Dave

The libs for 060 chip should indeed be installed prior the board is used, else the machine may not boot. At least it won't work as meant. The procedure depends on your OS version and if you're going to keep the OS capable to work with other CPUs as well. With OS 3.9 and it's setpatch you just need the 68060.library to make things to work with 060.

You need at least a kickstart 2.0 chip, and you'll have to install a small 040.library and a 060.library. The 040 points internally to the 060, that trick is done because there were not 060 accelerators when OS3.1 was released.

You can do it with the Blizzard installed, but boot without startup-sequence and copy the files from the shell. If you try to boot WB without the libraries you'll probably end up crashing your miggy...

@DGB

Installed an '060 Blizz in my A2000 quite a while back, absolutely love it!  You do indeed have to install the software first, and follow the directions in the manual.  Had no trouble getting mine to work.  Good luck with yous.  Best regards.....Art

And don't forget that booting with the 2 key (under F1) depressed will start it up on the 68000, if required.

Have my A2060 populated to 64Mb at the present.
