MUI / MagicWB register?
« on: April 25, 2010, 05:56:32 PM »
I never really got how to use this software. If you register it, does that make the Workbench screen actually change? What can you do with the registered version?

Cause from my experience, it never had any affect on the actual WB.

MagicWB will make your Workbench look like this, no matter if you register or not: http://www.sasg.com/pic/mwb_preview.gif
The only difference between preview and full version is that every icon shows "demo version" when you click on it while in the full version all icons have two images.
MagicWB cannot be registered any more, it's out of business.

MUI is completely unrelated. It is only needed for programs using MUI. It does not do anything to Workbench. MUI can still be registered through the author.

Hi

Which software MUI or MagicWB ... Amazed if you haven`t got MUI installed on your Amiga. Loads of applications use it. As to MagicWB I really have never used it but as quoted on the site...

MagicWB is a full replacement for the Graphic User Interface of the Workbench and has become the standard visual interface on the Amiga.

http://www.sasg.com/mwb/index.html

http://www.sasg.com/index.html

[ quote ]

MUI is an object oriented system to create and maintain graphical user interfaces. Programmers save a great amount of work and benefit from MUI's powerful object collection, users get the possibility to customize nearly every pixel of an applications look according to their personal taste. During the last years, MUI has established itself as a standard for graphical user interfaces on the Amiga. Since its first release in 1993, lots of experienced programmers have contributed to the success by releasing hundreds of MUI based applications.

I have paid to register my MUI which if I recall just avoids a pop-up.. But don`t quote me on it. Just pay Stefan Stuntz using PayPal.

From the site on registering the software...

[ quote ]

Why should I register MagicWB?
There are a few obvious reasons:

MagicWB is shareware and by using it you accept the concepts of shareware which imply that you must register the product if you like it and continue using it.

By registering MagicWB you will receive the full, feature-enhanced version which has much more to offer than the feature-reduced shareware version. With it you will get a genuine MagicWB environment which unlocks your door to over 6000 extensions of 3rd-party MagicWB archives and also lets you enjoy applications that use the MagicWB standard.

Registering a shareware product is important when you like the product and would love to see extensions, improvements and new versions (updates). A continuing development of a shareware product is only possible when a broad user base is willing to support the author with their registrations. In the case of MagicWB it is vital that you register it if you like it to ensure a future for MagicWB. Please read about the future for more information.

By registering you will feel better since you don't need to steal.

[ end quote ]

Well hope that helps...

MagicWB was always my favorite look for the Amiga. I liked it better then the default look of OS 3.5/3.9. I just liked the cool 2-D metal effect it had.

Yeah I was reading at the SASG website and that's what inspired the post. To me, I felt like the magic was missing. Cause I'd look at those MUI previews or other pre-set settings, you could load, and I'd be like yeah! Save those settings and make my WB look like that - turn on the magic!

But there was no magic, it was all up to me to find and save the drawers and default icons and the color palettes, and all this crap. Well I'm still learning shitt , 30 years out of date, but I'm gonna install this MagicWB the right way this time. Guess I was just too stupid for the magic to work.

If you manage to get a MUI Serial then make a party!!!
I registered some years ago (just for supporting MUI) but never got a reply from the author.
Thankfully a friend of mine that had registered MUI some time sooner than me, got after some time a reply with a general Serial from the author (not name based though) for him to use, that he sent to me as well.

Regarding MUI registration, the author lost access to his Classic Amiga and was no longer able to create new registration keys.
I was sent a registered Key but it was someone elses.I don't believe MUI is being updated for AOS 3.x any longer.
