Octamed on UAE - Font Folder?
« on: January 01, 2011, 09:03:29 PM »
As this is my first post here, I'd like to say hello first off.

I've been using a couple Amiga 500s for the past two years to create music, and love this machine's quirks and wonderfully gritty sound.  My friend asked me recently to remix one of his tracks from his 1200, and sent me all the data files, and a copy of UAE.  After getting an emulation of his computer set up, I found that I could not load octamed from the emu due to it wanting a fonts disk in a different drive than DH0........

I've tried to find a disk creator/organizer for the emu, but can't find one that will let me add files to a disk, as I've found the fonts that I think it's looking for.....

I'm still pretty new to the amiga systems, so I've run out of ideas of why this would happen.......Any suggestions?

You might need to set up assigns to point it in the right direction, but I am pretty rusty on this stuff myself.

You may find there is a latency that wasnt there when you were using an actual Amiga.

Good luck, and get back and let us know how OctaMED runs on UAE!!

If you're using WinUAE to run OctaMED SoundStudio, try using the MaestroPro 16-bit sound emulation of TheMaestrix in conjunction with the AHI driver that came with WinUAE.  It will require a full install of AHI to do it though.

Once you've got the software installed and the Font issue resolved, this should give you the best quality sound you can get under WinUAE.  Also, if you need a link to OctaMED SoundStudio, look here.

You will get great sound quality...

...though it defeats the purpose as your tracks also will not sound anything like they would coming out of a real Amiga.

Unless you are particularly attached to this version of the software for some reason, you might just want to check out OctaMED Sound Studio for Windows and/or Open Mod Plug Tracker which is my personal choice out of the two...

...that is when I'm not using my real Amiga to produce those distinct dirty sounds.

@Xdelusion:  I'm actually going to send the file back to my friend to be exported/recorded from his 1200, so I need it to be in amiga MOD format, not sure if this could do that.  I'll be doing my research though!

@runequester:  I'm not sure what you mean by that, could you give a noob-style explanation as I'm pretty bad with actual programming and routing.......

I'm actually not looking for "quality" sound, and will still be running my A500 to get some of those original sounds.  I'm just having difficulty with my internal floppy drive ATM.  It's eating my disks all the time........

@megamouse312: What version of OctaMed is it you're trying to run? I remember having issues with the Notation Editor of OctaMed SoundStudio, due to fonts missing. In my case it was the octamednotathi.font, but other than that, the rest of the menus were operational..

@Salax54: I'm pretty sure it is Version 5, if not higher........it's copyright 1996

@Motorollin: the prompt reads like this:
System Request
Please insert volume
FONTS
in any drive

@megamouse
Ok, you need to find where the fonts are located, and add the following line to the startup sequence on your OctaMED disk:

Assign FONTS: Path:To/OctaMEDFontsDrawer

(obviously you change the path you specify). If you plan to run from hard drive then the FONTS: assign should already exist and you should just be able to copy the fonts from OctaMED's fonts directory to the system FONTS: location.

Thanks for the help everybody, I found a solution.........just download the disks.

@Moto:  I'm very confused, as I said I'm not a programmer, Just a musician:roflmao:

As for octamed running on the emu, it works, but there's a lot of buffering noise while working, but not so much when you're just playing a song.  Looks Like I need to find a 1200 LOL
