Amiga 4000 and Accelerators

Hey all, have a question.  I've got my 4000 with the standard 68040 25mhz proc.  I have been debating getting a new CPU card, like the 68040 40mhz ones.  However, how much difference if any is this going to make to most games?  I notice in some games some slowdown, but am curious if that's mainly just the game or is going to a faster proc going to make much of a difference?  Being that this is the second to fastest Amiga they made, I would assume games would already run their best on the 25mhz board?  

So curious, if dumping money into one is really worth it?

The biggest advantage over the stock 040 is having faster memory.  The onboard memory makes a big difference.

That said, I'd go for an 060 if you're upgrading unless you get a sweet deal on a faster 040.

There are new 060's available from SoftHut for under $500, but not much under.

If it's just for games, I doubt you'll ever see a difference.

Well, it depends on the kind of games you will play - if it's mainly for older WinUAE titles then don't bother as the stock A4000 is plenty fast for these.

OTOH if you're interested in more modern 3D FPS titles (1995+) then you will definitely notice a difference. The question is whether it's worth it, because these titles are rarely on par with classics as far as gameplay goes + the graphics is still ugly as hell. The fastest, best looking and most fun FPS I've played on my A4000/060 is Doom....

Ya, it's mainly for the older ones.  I've got a Cybervision 64/3D but don't really care about the 3D games.  I've got plenty of more powerful computers for games like that.  I've got a full 16MB added to the system.  I wouldn't mind the extra memory and the scsi, but looks like it would cost me around 350 or so for any 40mhz upgrade cards.  I've already dumped a chunk of change into this machine to get the Cybervision, USB etc..  Wasn't sure if I wanted to drop that much more into it.

Maybe I'll just hold off unless I see a killer deal someday.  These things are freaking expensive when they come up.  Shows how much people love these old systems I suppose.  Non Amiga parts of the same specs for these years cost like 5 bucks..  ;-)
