UFO (XCOM) suddenly works on VGA monitor!?
« on: September 29, 2010, 05:46:47 AM »
So I am somewhat confused :)

I had installed FBlit and to my recollection, thats the only thing Ive messed with.

When starting UFO, it gave me a garbled screen. I pruned away the extra things in the Monitors drawer and this gave me the image back, but it was too large to fit the screen.

On a whim, I unplugged the external scan doubler thing I use, and plugged the VGA monitor straight into the adapter I have in the amiga's monitor port and voila... UFO displayed a crisp nice image, straight to my LCD monitor, with no scan doubling.

Exiting to workbench, and the "input not supported" message came back until I connected the scan doubler again.

What gives ?

I guess UFO is one of the few games that supports Mode Promotion, and it saw one of your VGA compatible modes as being ideal.

And you probably have Mode Promotion enabled in IControl prefs.

Aww, Cammy and Matt_H beat me to it.... And, what the heck, Cammy posted 2 hours from now?! !##$#?! time zones......

But, somewhat on-topic, we should try to compile a list of games that can be promoted....

Good idea! I'd love to have a list of games that are playable while the OS is still running too.
