Warp Engine question
« on: December 02, 2003, 05:38:59 PM »
Does the "4 SIMM sockets" version phisically fit in A3000D? I suspect no, as there was a 2 SIMM sockets version of the accelerator as well, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

from what i remember, if your happy running your machine with the lid off and more importantly, the drive bays removed, (which would be a shame as the A3000 is one of the better looking of the miggy range), then yes it would work.

from that, its my guess, its the simm slots that foul with the drive bays but i don't know if thats with or without simms installed. if its without simms, then its down to how happy you are desoldering 72 pin simm sockets.

i just remember the A3000D being rather tightly packet in there   :-)

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

Thanks for the tip!

I definitely wouldn't want to run my A3000 with the top off, or a more severe rape for that matter. :-)
Perhaps you can use 2 simm slots with memory and leave the other 2 empty.

Tip: don't look at a thread named like this if you've just been watching star trek :-)

It won't work unless you have some dilithium crystals.
If I have military spec stuff listed on eBay, you can find it here  :-)

AFAIK the model with the 4 RAM-banks has the modules fittet upright wich leads to spaceproblems. In the special A3000 version the RAMs are fittet about 45° tilted so there could only be 2 banks fitted in place.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

I have the 2 simms version in my A3k ....
And no I don't think there is room for the 4
chip version. You might be able to use it if you
didn't use all the simm slots. Not really sure as
I haven't seen a 4 chip version. They are for
the A4k AFAIK.
Otherwise a very nice accellerator.

Stealth ONE  8-)

I had a 4 simm version of the WE in a 3000d. I had to cut the drive bay tray out where the memory simms were located. Of course this leaves only room for 1 floppy afterwards. It is a real tight (I said tight but I mean real tight)  fit between the WE card and the zorro riser. You need to do the init hack for the scsi to work at full speed. It worked great but it was later moved to my 4000t when the cs quit thanks dce). Wish Macro Systems had come out with the 060 adapter and libs they were talking about.
