There's a programs for still images on Aminet (ppm2aga I think) that uses the Copper to change the base color registers on the fly and avoid HAM8 artifacts
JPEGAGA also used this
If you compare the images produced by other programs that used HAM8 but didn' support that feature(some JPEG viewers etc. you'd notice the better quality of the first ones.
Actually I'm surprised this doens't seem to be very known
For more really usable programs not many support this wich is a shame.:
XiPaint for example supports HAM8 but if you load a >8bit picture, specially a 24bit one you'll notice HAM artifacts VERy much.
So my question is: What other programs you know that supported that feature properly to give a real 24bit picture?
These come to mind but since I don't have them I'd like to know if they support it (and others):
-TrueBrilliance supported 24bit image through HAM8 but didn't it correct it?
- ImageFX also says it supports HAM8
- Arteffect too
- ......(what else?)
Using programs that supported this you can still effectively use your AGA Amiga to do serious Painting and FX, provided what you're doing doesn't need stupid amouts of processing power. And the Amiga had some very cool programs.
Resuming, a nice way to keep a Classic Amiga still usefull and used!
