Efika & Samiga & Pegasos
« on: July 20, 2010, 10:36:14 PM »
Hi I was just wondering if it would be possible to run Amiga OS4.1 on an Efika? And would it be possible to run MorphOS on a Sam? I read that the Pegasos can run either AmigaOS4.1 or MorphOS, is that correct? and if so what's different about it that it can run both? As i understand it all three can run linux right? I just recently found out about the Efika and it seems to me to be a reasonably priced alternative.

Currently, no OS4 on Efika (probably never happen, either.)  No MorphOS on SAM either.

The Pegasos is magical.

No, unless if OS4 is ported to Efika.

Yes.

Both OSes have added support for Pegasos2 HW (MorphOS from the beginning, OS4 much later).

Yes.

I'd be inclined to claim that eMac is the really reasonably priced alternative, bang / buck. You can find those even cheaper than Efika.

As an Efika and Mac mini user I must admit that the eMac and in particular the Mac mini are the much much more versatile devices. The efika actually *can* deliver much fun, but more for tinkering projects, low wattage setups and for the sake of it. It is a nice device and it is pretty useable for many things, but then again the RAM limitation is a bit annoying (well, it is okay) as is the limited cpu power (also okay for a lot of things) the not too fast ide interface and usb 1.1.
The Mac mini G4 and MorphOS are really a dream team (nonetheless I really ike my Efika and use it a lot, too).
If your funds are not too tight I'd go for a Mac mini, if your budget is rather limited an eMac is a pretty nice option.

@Piru
What do you mean "ported"?
To port something usually means to bring it from one architecture to another, not to write device drivers and "make it boot".
