With the RX, all 3 drives are on all the time but you can only use one of them at boot time.
The SE turns the unused drives off. If using the SE in a PC you are able to boot from one drive and choose from the other two drives as a slave.
My PC setup
#1 drive is Amithlon
#2 drive is Win98
#3 drive is Win2000
Also the SE uses a PCI slot as a place to hold the little card but has no connectors. I guess you could mount it somewhere else though.
