Amiga 1200 CD-ROM or EasyADF?
« on: June 14, 2010, 06:19:46 PM »
My question is: should I get a CD-ROM for my A1200 or an EasyADF?

The goal here is to read software that is sold only in CDs. Would I be able to read the CD from my PC and then transfer files via EasyADF?

If I really should get a CD-ROM, which model do I need? looking at amigakit they have a few CD-ROM to sell but they are not specific about A1200 compatibility or whether I need extra cables or software...

Thanks

How about subway USB?

CDs are so 90's

But you could plug in any sort of cd-rom or memory card.

I'd suggest picking up a PCMCIA CF Card Reader (Easy ADF). All you have to do from there is copy the contents of your CD to your CF and you are gold. Should the CD need a special name, then just rename the CF card so that the system knows where to look.

Also it is said that you can mount ISO images in the Amiga OS (though I've yet to see this work my self).

I tend to choose the CF route, as I keep all my CD's and DVD's backed upon hard drives since they scratch so easily. That way I never have to touch the original, I don't have to wait for discs to load, or worry that my CD-ROM drive will some day stop working.

Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

Yep, EasyADF and a CF reader for PCMCIA.
You might also want to buy a CCresest fix from amigakit.com

If you have the TOSEC with all games and utils most of the cd's won't be
necessary.
