Hello all.
I recently bought a NOS PAL A1200 from Amigakit. I also ordered a Subway USB interface and wireless PCMCIA network card from the same folks.
From Softhut I acquired the GVP "Typhoon" 030/40 accelerator with 32mb RAM and SCSI. Acording to Sysinfo it has a 28mhz "82" FPU.
From a Ebay vendor I ordered a IDE->CF adapter and configured a 4gb card with classicWB-ADV.
I used the Amiga to partition the CF card, then using UAE I copied the classicWB stuff to CF card. I ended up running the classicWB setup under UAE because I was missing the physical WB 3.1 "Storage" disk. I did remember the "MaxTransfer" to 0x1fe00...
I installed MiamiDX and was able to get the wireless card up and running with no sweat. AmigaTradeCenter really works nice with the A1200.
The Subway USB gizmo was also very simple to get working, and I'm very impressed with it! Sysinfo says the speed is around 250/k sec which is 11X faster than floppy and hell of a lot faster than typing. It is hard to believe its using an interface designed for a clock.
I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to hack the case to install the usb ports (beautiful NOS machine and all). I may just go with one port out the little knock-out thing, but I also wanted to use that for SCSI (which I'll probably never use).
I had downloaded something called "Amiga master Collection" which is basically a bunch of pre-configured whdload games. I copied a bunch of those to my "Work:" partition. None run - some give spectacular crashes, some just a GURU. Using the CF card under UAE (on my netbook) all the ones I tried worked.
What should I look at doing? I did set the "MaxTransfer" to 0x1fe00 and all partitions as suggested in another discussion. I also commented out the line in user-startup that loads the subway stuff incase that was interfering with whdload.
I made a 500mb partition for ShapeShifter so I'll be loading some mac stuff next.
Also, I'd like to be able to mount ADFs as virtual floppies so I can install a few programs I have in ADF format. What is the best way to do that? I did see something called "ADF Device".
http://bfugl.dk/Download.aspNext I need to do something about composite video which is not good on my eyes... I'd love an Indivision AGA 1200 about now. Also I'll be ordering an adapter to use a optical mouse. I'm not feeing the retro nostalgia of the ball mouse...
Thats all for now. Enjoying my new old machine! Thanks AmigaKit and SoftHut! Thanks community for the help...
