ClickForColors and using 16 colors possible?
« on: March 30, 2010, 07:23:51 PM »
Hi,

At the moment I am using the icons of small bench which make use of the ClickForColors tool. This requires the system to use 8 colors. If I use 16 colors then everything turns pink and blue. So I was wondering is there a way how I can use 16 colorsm ClickForColors and don't get all the icons in pink?

Here (which is the smallbench guide) says that all icons are 8 colors:

I don't know the maximum but there was a nice 16 colour MagicWB palette that also had yellows, reds, blue-ish colours...

Hi!

I hope I can help solve your dilemma. There is now a perfect 16 colour palette that has been specially developed over the years to work as well as possible with all Workbench applications, games, iconsets and GUI themes. To apply this palette, you need to download and install FullPalette, which will allow you to edit and lock your Workbench pens. Once installed, load the ClickMeFor16Colours file in the FullPalette prefs program, make sure all the pens are locked, and save it. Now your Workbench will display MagicWorkbench and SmallBench iconsets, as well as NewIcons, GlowIcons, PowerIcons, IconoGraphics and most other iconsets as best as is possible from 16 colours.

Here is FullPalette - http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/FullPalette22
Here is the perfect 16 colour palette - http://home.exetel.com.au/amiga/Workbench16.lha

I hope this helps!

Thanks Cammy for your help and detailed explanation. It seems Aminet is down at the moment so I will have to wait and download FullPalette22 tomorrow or when it comes up again. Thanks again :)

EDIT: checked again it's now up :)

Just out of curiosity ... do you people put the "ClickMeFor16Colours"/"ClickMeForColours" in the WBStartup directory? Or just click it once and then save configurations from Prefs/Palette?

I am unsure because what I do most of the time to see if I am installing things correctly is to check with the ClassicWB installation and in this I did not find the ClickMeFor16Colours, or ClickMeForColours in the WBStartup directory!

Also, if I have the new FullPallete, then I should detele the old Pallette?

You shouldn't ever have to put the ClickMeForColours icon in the WBStartup drawer, since it's best to apply the palette before the Workbench screen opens. If you have installed FullPalette now, it should appear in your S:Startup-Sequence with this line, which should be on the next line after C:IPrefs

Run <>NIL: FPPrefs

If this is in your Startup-Sequence (which it should be if you installed FullPalette) then all you need to do is open FullPalette (from Workbench:Prefs/), open the ClickMeFor16Colours prefs file, click on each of the colours in the GUI and make sure each one says Locked (not Free), then click Save, and from now on your Workbench should open with the correct palette. Any Workbench games, applications, GUI themes or icon sets that you open on Workbench should now look as good as they can get in 16 colours.

FullPalette overrides the default Workbench palette prefs, so there's no need to delete anything, just make sure you don't have any other "ClickMeForColors" icons or anything like that in the WBStartup drawer.

Hi Cammy,

Sorry for taking long to reply. First of all thank you very much for your help. I wouldn't have managed without! :) However I do not know if you know this, but colors are set differently by ClickMeFor16Colours then they are in Classic Workbench. For example, black in Classic Workbench is set as 0, 0, 0 while with ClickMeFor16Colours this is set as 1, 1, 1.

I copied the color values from Classic Workbench and now small bench icons are shown in their full splendor. Just with ClickMeFor16Colours values they still look good, just not that good! I do not know if you knew about this or maybe I did something wrong.
