Access internet using 02 and A1200T
« on: March 21, 2010, 05:09:38 PM »
Hi everyone. I have got an A1200T, ethernet card, Mediator, Voodoo 5500, 060/50. The problem I have is this, I simply can't connect to the internet using Easynet. I know it works because it connected to the network and internet at the shop where it was installed. But at home, it does not work. I can see it in my router settings, but can't ping it or anything. I am using O2 broadband, with an O2 wireless box II. It is using a hard wired ethernet connection. Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you using a PCMCIA adapter for wifi? If so, I believe one of the jumpers on the mediator disables the PCMCIA port. I have a 100mbps pci nic, so wasn't an issue there, but before I found one that worked (mediator is kinda picky about ethernet cards sometimes) I used a 3com pcmcia ethernet card without much trouble (chassis issues, mostly, even with the right-angle adapter, the cable got kinda pinched). I'll have to look through my mediator manual, and see if I can't dig up the jumper settings.

edit: OK, only mention of the mediator jumpers about the PCMCIA port is about the 4MB window (as opposed to 0 or 8), and it mentions this if you use a 4MB PCMCIA expansion. This isn't surprising, considering how C= had the port mapped. It doesn't mention disabling the PCMCIA port for 0 or 8 MB windows, but I vaguely recall reading about that somewhere. (Pages 2 and 3 in the manual, at least the English section)

Some TCP software on the Amiga doesn't play well with some DHCP servers - like some routers. Try switching the router and the Amiga to using a static IP and see if that helps...

I am using a static IP, as the software on the Amiga needs that before anything happens. I also tried using a cross over ethernet cable to link my Amiga to the Laptop and set them up...still could not ping anything. I know the combination of cards work as they were OK back at the shop. It's an  PCI ethernet card I am using.

Thanks again

I had the same problem with my mediator setup with miamidx,...it just wouldn't talk to the router through the ethernet card.
I tried genesis instead (which i believe easynet uses) and it worked fine....go figure.
In both cases i had to manualy assign the IP, gateway and DNS as DHCP wouldn't play.

For example:

IP 192.168.0.12  (amiga static address)
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1  (router address)
DNS 192.168.0.1

This title really threw me. I use an SGI O2 (mips workstation) as my server/firewall, so my A1200 Access internet using 02. I thought I was the only one in the world whth that setup; looks like I might be.

I will be giving it another go later today. Thought I suspect it's going to be quite involved.
