Amiga 1200HD startup question...
« on: March 19, 2010, 05:51:34 PM »
Ive recently purchased an amiga 1200 HD from amigakit.com and it is a great piece of kit.

My question is with my previous amiga 1200 i had a HD installed and when i turned the power on i would get the purple screen showing insert disk animation which was good for games that i didnt install and old games i wanted to run. I would press ctl A & A to boot up the hard drive..

With my A1200HD from amigakit.com it does come with a installed hard drive but i cant seem to get the insert screen animation. instead when i turn it on it goes straight to workbench which is anoying if i want to play older games... is there any way i can get change the boot up sequence so i can have the purple insert screen animation??

thanks
A1200 - ACA 1221EC Accelerator, 32GB CF Card, SCSI CD-ROM, WB3.9, 3.1.4 ROM. PCMCIA 4GB transfer card, Indivision AGA MK2

Hold the two mouse buttons down on boot and you go to a boot screen and select boot from the floppy drive. If you have the game in the floppy it will generally boot straight from the floppy anyway.

This is a bug in Kickstart 3.0. Couldn't even imaging that somebody would find it useful. Your new Amiga probably has Kickstart 3.1 which does not have this bug.

HD probably had slow spin-up, and didn't get detected on the initial boot. While warmbooting (ctrl-A-A), the HD has already spinned up.

It's not really a bug, it's just a matter of the preset hd-wait-delay.

You shouldn't need to worry, if your Amiga is booting up Workbench or has booted up already, just put your floppy disk in and reboot with CTRL A A, and the game will run. You won't need to go to the boot menu or anything, the Amiga prioritises the floppy drive over the hard drive so if there's a disk in there it will boot from that first.
