Buddha in Mediator possible?
« on: March 25, 2010, 06:38:40 PM »
Hi,
I recently bought a Buddha Flash Phoenix IDE controller with the intention to connect it through a Zorro slot of my Mediator 4000Di. I used the Install util on the floppy disk that came with the controller, but when I restart my Amiga the BuddhaSpeed complains that "No boards (were) found" - I assume it doesn't detect the Buddha. I tried all 3 Zorro slots of the Mediator (I'm not using any other Zorro cards).
I also have a Voodoo 3 and a fast ethernet PCI cards in the Mediator and they work fine (the rest of the system is in my sig).
Do you know what might be the problem? I assume it should be possible to use Buddha in Mediator, right? Thanks.

Have you mounted it in the right direction? (if not its fried).

You do not gain anything over the stock IDE on the A4000 motherboard with the Buddha card, but its neat to be able to connect 2.5" devices directly to it, but 3.5" -> 2.5" converters are available.

I mounted it according to the instructions - "In A3000/A4000 desktop computers, the components of the controller must face up", which they certainly do. I suppose the Zorro slots on Mediator have the same orientation as those on the original daughterboard - ie. they are not reversed, otherwise I would be pissed :)

Yeah, thats the right direction :)

If the card has a 2.5" HD connected, dont forget to attach power cable.  Otherwise I can not see anything wrong, should be plug and play, have the same card in my A4000 but running original C= daughter board.

OK, I'll try and test it with the original daughterboard. Thanks.

EDIT: nice post count :D

OK, so I've tested the Buddha with the original daughterboard and it works - BuddhaSpeed returns something like "Default timing: 7, Current timing: 0". So the problem definitely lies in the Mediator or the interaction between it and the Buddha. I tried reseating all the boards several times, tried all 3 slots and it's just not detecting the Buddha. Unfortunately I don't have any other Zorro boards here to test so I don't know if the problem is only with this card or universal. Any suggestions for what I can try to make it work?
