WHDLoad questions
« on: March 26, 2010, 05:11:07 AM »
I got a few questions about WHDLoad (I got a stock A1200 with the original 2Meg and no accelarator or extra memory):

- Memory: Several games (all AGA games I tried so far and many others like Another World) give me the not enough memory error. Is this how it is supposed to work or is there a switch I am not using?

- Multiple Disks: If a games has multiple disks I cannot use the Preload option (it will error out saying that it could not find Disk1). Some games like Cannon Fodder will be flashing during load but then work fine. Others like Shadow Ninja will keep flasing continuously. Is there a parameter I could use to fix this?

Regarding accelerators and extra memory, what would be the cheapest option just to get these games to work?

Thanks

Hi. Are you using preload tooltype when you get the error message?
And the games flashing is that whdload has to go to WB every time loading data if the game isn't preloaded in RAM.
A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.
And a couple of A600\'s :).

Without some FAST RAM expansion (even ridiculous PCMCIA RAM) WHDLoad will not run with WHDLoad.

Grab a 4Mb TRAPDOOR  RAM expansion or an accelerator card to run WHDLoad games.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

preload option loads the game disks to memory. if it's disabled, whdload has to switch to OS and read disk contents from HDD. That's why the flashing occurs.

Some games must have preload enabled (I believe non dos games), if you don't have enough RAM to load disk images, they simply won't work.

the ccheapest option would be either a 2mb PCMCIA SRAM card or a expansion slot RAM board. The price difference won't be too much, so I would strongly suggest a expansion slot RAM board, cause PCMCIA memory is slow. A RAM board could set you back 60-100$.
I believe in mt. Fuji

Thanks everyone for the quick responses.

I have been looking for RAM expansions but all I can find are accelerator boards. The chepeast ones seem to be the Mtec 1230 (I found one 4Meg and one 8Meg). Are these worth it? Will I be able to close the trapdoor with these?

Thanks
