Request For Help
« on: March 21, 2010, 05:06:41 PM »
Hi Gang...I have a request from this community. I was a long time Amiga user, having owned a 500, 1200, 3000, and a 4000. I have since sold all of my Amigas, having moved to the dark side, but I need some help from my old community. When my second son was in junior high, he had a class assignment to create a newspaper. Together, he and I created a kick-ass newspaper using all Amiga software, Final Writer, DeluxePaint, and ImageFX if memory serves. I have a DD disk with all of this stuff backed up, but it's quite old now and I have no idea if it's still intact or not. Since I no longer have the means to check it, I was wondering if I could find someone still active in the community who would be willing to check the disk for me, and print out all the files if they still were viable. I would expect to reward whoever would undertake this project with whatever fee would be fair. I do miss my Amigas and my wife especially misses MegaBall!
Regards,
Bruce Berg

Hi Bruce, and welcome! First off, where in the world are you? You never know, there may be someone living quite near to you that could do this for you. Failing that, I'm sure plenty of people will be willing to help. I'd do it myself but I don't have a copy of Final Writer here... If someone does though, it's a simple task to convert those files into something you can read with a PC/Mac.

If you want, and can't find anyone here to help, I can have a look at the disk and email you the files from it, so at least they'd be preserved until you come across someone who does have Final Writer...

I have all the software installed on my Miggy that you've mentioned.

I'd be willing to have a go for you.

Greetings...I live in Lincoln Nebraska, and all the folks I knew that had Amigas no longer have them. I thought my best bet then was this forum.

I know that on Amibay.com there are some amiga users in Kansas and states surrounding you who may have the Amigas and software. You may want to check out ADFREAD on winuae.net, there is a two-floppy drive trick you can use to back up to .ADF, then you can e-mail it to someone with the software. :)
My machines:
PowerMac G4 MDD 1.5ghz 1.25GB 10.5.8 & MOS 2.7
Mac Mini C2D 10.6.8 2GHz 3GB 250GB HDD
MacBook Retina 16GB 256GB SSD 10.8
iPad 2
Underground Gamer invites (a classic game site) PM

Need a part for a PC or Mac? PM me, I\'ll let you know if I come across it.

OS X trumps Windows on every level.

MorphOS, OS4 and Classic Amiga systems are the only ones who are real \'Amigas\', not that joke AROS or Amiga Forever.

If you're ever looking for other Amiga users who might live near-by, you should check the Google map of Amiga users - http://map.minimig.net/
