Close all open windows with one click?
« on: March 04, 2010, 03:41:08 AM »
Is there a certain key combination or Macro software or something that will allow you to close all open windows with one click.  This is the most annoying thing about the Amiga OS.
Thanks

Crtl-Amiga-Amiga ?   I mean as fast as it reboots it might be an option.   Can't say on any OS I've wanted to close every single window unless I was turning off the computer or something.  Maybe I've wanted to close all Window except the one I am using, but I have never even heard of such a feature.

Though I'm sure there is some way to do it.  Hopefully others will be more helpful than the option I thought of. ;-)

In Workbench, hold down Right-Amiga, click the window close gadget in an open window.  This closes all open drawers (at least, in 3.5+, not sure about earlier.)

What I would like to see is the ability to open new drawers in the current window.

It seems this feature was added in 3.5, it doesn't work in 3.1 (just tested).

Directory Opus Magellan can do this, I think it's an excellent Workbench replacement.

LoadWB: Sweet! Thanks for the Right-Amiga tip.

I'm familiar with T.H.E. , but I'm pretty sure that under OS3.5+, any program could close open windows using AREXX. (if you know the commands) I remember on a later AFCD, they had just updated the search tool. I click on a file I'm interested in, and all open windows were closed, and the window containing the prog. I needed was opened....

Man, I really need to learn AREXX....  And, sorry to hijaak the thread :)

Another way is by using Powerwindows (or is it PowerWB) which lets you define a hotkey for this exact purpose. I've lalt-esc and works just fine! Only there's a problem if you're using amidock as it is treated (for some reason) as a drawer window and is closed too. But I'm using polynet which is better than amidock so....
