Hi everybody. Bohus here - big fan and user of ImageFX & Toaster a long time ago. Amiga never left my heart, hence my trying to get my 1200 to load up some old floppies recently to get some of that old magic back.
My project was to hook up a PCMCIA ethernet thingy. I did that and installed appropriate software off of floppy. All good, connection to my PC worked, etc. Then I tried to install an old version of IBrowse I've got, and that's when the floppy drive went kablooey. The system stopped seeing it.
So I grabbed a couple external floppy drives, same result. The 1200 didn't see when I inserted disks. So I bought a replacement internal floppy drive off of Ebay and installed. The floppy drive light stays on, but it doesn't recognize disks.
The only other thing I could thing of to do was remove the RAM card to make the 1200 as vanilla a machine as possible. Still no good.
I've run out of options that my poor old memory could dredge up. I have some dim recollection that CIA chips run floppy access, and that it's easy to screw them up with voltage spikes... but that's a really dim memory that oculd be all wrong. But it's got to be something really deep in order to have the external drives not respond. RIght?
I'd appreciate any help. I've got some stuff I'd like to pull off of some old floppies, and would actually like to start noodling around with the old 1200 again. Thanks for your advice!
