Portable (not quite) Amiga
« on: January 31, 2008, 03:06:27 PM »
In my neverending quest to make all of my devices look like AmigaOS, I just finished installing NetBSD on my IBM Workpad z50.  (It's basically a PDA in a subnotebook formfactor.)

Basically, it's got a 4 gig Compact Flash card with NetBSD 4.0 on it.  That's nothing major... the magic came when I got my amiwm hack built on it;

It's not fast enough to run UAE and actually be useful, and this fits a niche for me perfectly, as-is, so I'm not too concerned about that.  About the only thing I'm going to change as far as the windowing is to finish up my window manager "boingwm", which is a modified "WindowLab", to add Amiga 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, 4.x as well as other classic OS themes. (Atari TOS, Mac System 7, Lisa, etc)

here's gallery of pics of Hector, the z50

This is cool! :)  I've always thought it funny tho, that people write skins for other OS'es to make them look like a standard Amiga OS, while all of us on Amiga are installing little hacks to make our OS's look different :)

Back in college, I had various hacks I'd downloaded to make 1.3 look more '3D', but i've since realized they just make it look more 'horrible. ;)

I used 2.04 back then as well, when I could, but I always liked the color, the feel, the simplicty, and the cartoonyness of 1.3.

The "Screens" come with the window manager "amiwm".  It's just its way of implementing multiple desktops on X11.

Why are the clocks different on the pull down screens?  Is the back screen in the past?  :-D
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

@adolescent:

Don't you know? Amiga comes with a "Time Machine" app! Either that or he's invented time travel! (the schematics must have been somewhere in the Kickstart image!?) :-D

Because I didn't implement the clock in the menu bar properly.  It only updates when you right-click on it.  Heh.  It's good enough, so I left it that way.

Sorry.  This fell off of my radar.

It's using the 'amiwm' window mananger for X11t with some hacks I added to give it the 1.x look.
