Somebody stop me.
« on: February 06, 2010, 11:07:46 PM »
I'm thinking about hacking an A4000 motherboard into an A500 case.  It probably won't even fit with a CPU board on it, but if it does there's going to be trouble.

How about a PC motherboard in the A500 and setup a version of windows that boots into WINUAE. I saw a tutorial that outlines the procedures here.

You'll have a machine with internet, graphics card, (AGA and Picasso96) ehternet, etc.

I don't do emulation, really, I just enjoy hacking hardware.

..though I did install a mini-itx motherboard into an Atari 5200 case, DVD drive and all.

That just cannot happen m8. A500 case is too small...

Actually, it isn't.  Obviously the Zorro riser wouldn't fit, so I wouldn't be able to use any cards...  The motherboard more than fits though.

I wouldn't try this with working stable A4000D's becoming harder to find. But good luck.

After looking at the project, it doesn't appear to be as challenging as I'd originally thought, and the end product wouldn't really be worth it.  Guess I'll leave the 4000 alone.

How about a Sam440ep + Keyrah + A1200 keyboard into an A500 case.  Maybe stick with the A500 motherboard get an Indivision ECS and try and find a DCE Viper 530 and hook up a slimline CDRW and compact flash internally.
