TFX on WinUAE - anyone running it in high-detail?
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:50:38 AM »
Hi,

Just installed TFX from the CUCD15 CD-ROM, and i runs okay, but I can't get the jazzy shaded AGA display that I'm expecting.

I'm running it in WinUAE (which is set up as a fast A1200), but it always seems to run with the details and number of colours at minimum.

I've tried both the 68000 & FPU versions of the program too.

I've tried using the configuration util to crank the settings up, with no luck.

Can anyone suggest what else I can try?

Cheers,

Mike.

That thing was always a pain to get going. Mine kept crashing.

The Amiga version of TFX was patched to hell and back, someone created some installs over on EAB which will help.

I've never understood the logic behind playing an Amiga version of a PC game on a PC which is emulating an Amiga.

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

"Original" Amiga version is dog-slow due lack of CPU power, but it is compatible.

Think someone pushing a very big block of concrete over cold molasses and you get the picture.

That using an Apollo 1240/40 (!), which is something respectable. 060 CPU will not help much.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Hi,

When I had the Blizzard 1260 in my A1200 it also ran dog-slow...

But now my WinUAE install runs like lightning, I'd like to see what TFX looks like when running at a decent speed...

Cheers,

Mike.

Because in this case, TFX was a DOS program only.  If you're a flight-sim fan, you'd want to get your fix of what was actually a pretty good sim any way you could.

DOSBox might be a better choice then.

That's exactly what I was thinking ;)

Seriously though, I see no technical reason why an 060 could not run this game at full-speed and detail in AGA.

I remember I was able to land a Stealth bomber in a carrier using "real" flight model. Once!:roflmao:

Yeah; I guess so.  I mean the Amiga version was beta code.
