Help configuring the Indivision AGA
« on: January 12, 2010, 12:59:56 AM »
Hi

My system is configured as follows:

A4000 / CybervisionPPC / Indivision AGA

I had the system connected to my 24" DELL 2405FPW LCD monitor and all was working fine (using a KVM to switch input signals to the monitor between the CVPPC when in WB and the Indivision when playing a game).

Last week I picked up a 32" Samsung HD LED TV and connected it to the Amiga. I got a picture fine through the CVPPC but nothing when outputting through the Indivision (the TV says 'Signal Out Of Range').

So..I thought no problem I'll fire up the Indivision Config tool (had not had to do this when connecting to the DELL LCD). I changed the PAL settings (I'm assuming NTSC and the other one (forget the name) are of no consequence to me??) to match the specs in the Samsung manual but still no image. The jumper on my 4000 mobo is set to PAL.

To 'test' the setting I do this in Workbench. With the Amiga running just WB (no games etc) the Indivision on the DELL LCD was displaying a blank screen (but coloured the same as my WB background colour)..on the Samsung LED the signal is apparently out of range. I'm assuming I'll know I've got the setting correct when I get the Samsung to show the same image as the DELL.

So...I'm wondering if someone would be so kind as to give me a quick rundown on how to use the Indivision Config tool (so I know I'm doing the right thing)? I've played around with the Scanmode setting and the vertical/horizontal frequencies but nothing much appears to be happening. Do I need to reboot the Amiga in between setting changes?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Hiya,

First things first, what version of the firmware are you running (shown when you startup though the Indivsion)?

If you're not running the latest firmware, patch the sucker and see if that fixes things.

The problem may be that your new monitor doesn't go down to 50hz (PAL mode), you can choose to output PAL as 65hz but then you loose the Amiga's silky smooth scrolling (which is why I use an older CRT for mine).
Life begins at 100 MIPS!

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

I was just tweaking up a monitor last night with the indivision tool.  Make sure you have it set to "user settings".  Making changes to the clock and freq has no effect when it is set to system settings.

What I do to set my monitor up:

First start up workbench and set your screen mode to a non-PAL mode.  This way you can adjust settings in the config tool without having your monitor go crazy each time you make a change.

Next load up Indivision Config Tool and open screen mode preferences simultaneously.

Next make changes to PAL in Indivision Config Tool and click "USE" when you are ready to test the mode.

Test the screen mode using Screen Mode preference.  Select the PAL mode and hit "TEST".  If the mode doesn't work you will get an out of range (or screen won't sync).  Simply pressing or waiting 10 seconds will get it to revert back to the original mode.

Once you find the right settings you can use the indivision config tool to SAVE them to ROM.

Try to keep track of your changes on paper.  It's easy to confuse the H.freq and V.freq parameters.

Good luck!

@Novacoder - the Indivision is running the latest version (1.5). I downloaded the tool from the Indivision website and it warned me that I should flash to the latest version (included in the LHA archive) so I did so.

I'll give it another go tonight based on the info both of you have offered.

Thanks for the quick replies!
