FA: ALL of my Amiga 2000 stuff ...
« on: December 10, 2009, 02:49:41 AM »
Finally auctioning off my old Amiga.  Turning this on for the first time since the early 90s was a wild trip down memory lane ... And I'm gonna miss it !!

Hoping someone provides a loving home for it -

Hi, I too have been absent for years, and this is a winsome reflection on the past.  I still am convinced that there never has been and never will be a computer to top the Amiga.  But I am of the older generation and am not technologically inclined.  Amiga is not going to celebrate the revival I always knew it would, and I need the closet space back.  So I am willing to re-home my Amiga 2000.  For payment, I want a knowledgeable person to manage the reclaiming of the 'stuff' I have on my Amiga.  I have various wires and 2 questionable monitors.  I have things on the Amiga that I have needed to recover, but can't manage it, so someone may have all my texts, sofware, monitors, whatever Amiga related equipment I have if they can and will get my own personal information and graphics off of the Amiga and onto a DVD so that I can download the info to Windows or Mac.  Anyone know how to do that?  Anyone want to do it?  I don't have Toast, so this add I am replying to could add that item for purchase also.     Morningsky

Morningsky, it would help to know where you live so you might find local help.  What you're asking isn't particularly hard but would require a bit of time....

Thank you, beller.  That makes sense.  I am in Southern California in a rural area outside of Riverside, California.  Thank you for alerting me to that.  Is it okay to post a phone number?  Or an email address?  Forgive me please, I have never encountered a similar format to what you have here.

I'm in pennsylvania, but if you want to ship that stuff I'd be overjoyed to get it and I could certainly copy off all your personal files and return them to you on dvd.

I have been out of amiga for awhile, getting back into it. I have an old 500 now, and an emulation pc running amiga os3.x.

I'd love to have a 2000 and some stuff for it.

That is being taken under consideration, Steven.  The only impediment is the task and expense of boxing it all up, especially not knowing what is going to be of value to you and what is not.  However, if I don't get a more convenient route to take, I will go with you on this.  How do we get in personal touch to work out the details.  Is it done by posting private phone numbers and email right here in this forum?

You can use the system's private email to work out the details with someone.  I'm in Sacramento or I'd jump on it!   There is a user here from Big Bear, is that nearby?

Morningsky,

I talked with AmigaDave who lives in Riverside.  He's very willing to help you get your files saved out.  Please contact him via the site's private mail to arrange this.  I'll drop his email to you via a private message.

Actually I live in Big Bear Lake, but used to live in Riverside and it is not far for me to visit there.  I have sent a PMail to Morningsky and offered to help him.  Thanks for the referral Bob.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Happy to see the equipment get a good home and Morningsky can get the files from it!  Although I've threatened my wife that I'd complete my collectionwith a 2000, it's a long drive from Sacramento to Riverside!

You're welcome!

Bob

You don't have an A2000 Bob???  2 years ago at the AmiWest 2008 Show (or was it the 2006 Show) the SACC group had a couple of stacks of A2000's 5 feet high that they were selling for $40 each.  Some even had 030 accelerator cards, SCSI controller cards, or RAM cards installed in them.

If you really want an A2000, I can probably help you out, but it is contrary to my new view and recommendation that all Amiga collectors take a good look at their Amigas that are just taking up closet space and try to get them into the hands of NEW Amiga users in the hopes that we can increase the number of Amiga hobbyists and if we are really lucky, we can get an Amiga into the hands of some young or old programmers that will find it an entertaining challenge to write some new code for our favorite computer system, or perhaps move forward and create something for one of the "Next Gen" Amiga systems (AOS4.x, MOS2.x & AROS), or both.

I know that such a hope is highly unlikely to produce any results, but it can't hurt and all those Amigas sitting in closets around the World aren't doing anyone any good (unless you are just hoarding them to use for spare parts some time in the future).  I have plans and hopes to reduce my collection from about 20+ Amigas down to 5 or less before the end of 2010 and try to get every one of them that I get rid of into the hands of a new Amiga user.  Some I will give away (don't ask, if you are already reading these forums, you don't qualify in my eyes) and some of my better higher spec Amigas will go to new users in some kind of programming contest, or other creative use of an Amiga.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Thanks, Dave.  I don't have room for the assortment of Commodore equipment I do have.  Mostly I have one of each model, although I've got a few 64s I've pulled SID chips from.

Good luck on your hunt for new Amiga users!  We were complaining about the lack of new users at SACC back when I was on the board of directors in the '90s.
