16 bit samples make it sound SO much sweeter. It's just not the same, though.

Leave 16bit for mastering (if you don't use 24bit), the coolest sounds come from 8bit (but only via native Amiga Audio), so I use that where ever possible, even on vocals (only after comression though :-) )

@LinchPin

Oh, I agree, it's the way to go with audio, but my point was, you don't NEED a 2000$ sampler and horrendously over-priced software to make a decent sounding song.

Hell, even ACID is good, but I prefer the tracker style. I always have. Maybe it's my refusal to change or maybe it's just that I thought that Teijo made something that, at the time, was thought impossible and I ran with it.

If Commodore had taken care of Amiga and resigned the poor Paula for something superior, you might see better music makers on Amiga now.

I agree that Amiga needed 16bit audio, but nothing can compare to native Paula audio, you just have to use it right!!

Now i'm a musician and i work with Cubase but the first music software that I've bought in my life was OctaMED SounStudio;with this software I've made my first experiences,I know what's possible with OctaMED but now..I know that is limited,not only for the 8bit freq. but for a lot of other things...time-stretchin.pitch-shifting,FXs,Virtual instruments,BPM setting,mixing, etc etc etc.

Here's a thought which I'll just throw out there to the universe...  I know .mod is considered a "dead" format, and sadly so are many of it's derivates (XM, IT etc on PC)- but there is STILL a HUGE potential for low-bandwidth music & demo-style content delivery systems via the internet.

My point is: Macromedia Flash supports so many other file formats, and low-quality mp3 seems to be the accepted format for web based audio.  Surely the extra 30 lines of code for mod support would be a great investment??

Remember all those old demos where the graphics were directly synched to certain instruments in the music/mod file??  Why aren't we getting quality audio on the web with TINY bandwidth requirements? The integration capabilities are enormous, especially for triggering flash events with mod/xm info...

If any of your mates work for macromedia- tell them!!

Cheers,
RedWarrior

@Methuselas (about Lameshit)

a really good work!

@ others users

I know that it is a bit expensive but have you tryed (for Audio NLE and RT effects) ProStationAudio Titanium?

It isn't an app for newbie but it is a "state of the art" in the Amiga market (and not only).

Now Maurizio Ciccione, is still launching a new app called ValveMaster for PC

http://www.audiolabs.it/

partially based on the rt DSP of PSA.

Take a look at the specs.
