A2000 CPU card length/width?
« on: October 30, 2009, 10:51:19 AM »
Does anyone have a full length A2000 CPU card handy to measure the full length and width of it for me?

Well, it's big; my Blizzard might be  about 12"x4".

Width with or without the Zorro connector?
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

They are large and take up the entire width of an A2000 motherboard. And imagine the height being very close to the top of the case. No much wiggle room there at all and NONE length wise (which is good because you want that puppy stable).

Total length, total width. So yes, with connector/s on any end.

A bit more info which maybe I should've stated at the start...

It'd be good to get an fairly accurate measurement as I have plans for a project (of course I won't know 'til I have a specific card here to check with). The project is basically an accelerator card (040 or 060) inside my Amiga 1000 Phoenix, or, where I think there is more room, in my newly acquired A500. :)

If it goes in the A1000 Phoenix, I was actually thinking of utilitising the Zorro II slot to adapt to the accelerator card - of course there may be some physical changes - and this is what I'm trying to work out. From net searching info about Zorro II pinouts, it seems VERY closely electrically identical to the A2000 CPU slot. So, I'm thinking it can't be too hard to adapt or if not, strangely enough, a "plug in" solution! Has anyone tried an A2000 CPU card in a spare Zorro II slot to see if it works?

As a positive, I seem to remember hearing of a few people who have adapted A2000 CPU cards to the A500 Zorro connector as well.

So basically, I really do think it'll be fairly doable without too much hassle!

No and I doubt it. Why not hunt down the appropriate accelerator card for the 500 or 1000 and not take a chance on mucking up your systems? Think it might be better to try and overclock an existing card than to cross adapt something that wasn't designed for a specific purpous. Just my 2 cents...

Found this info on the subject. It might help.

I agree when it comes to an 020 or 030 card. I've actually managed to source an 040 card now - and that's what I had in mind originally. Getting an 040 based accelerator for an A500/1000 is next to impossible - only one model available? And, unless I'm very confident with the connections and so on, I'm not gonna just go and make wild decisions and willy nilly plugs things in or solder dodgy bits together. I've got lots of little Amiga bits and pieces to play around with including a spare A1000 motherboard. Based on the info I've gathered so far, it should be fairly easily doable.

Thanks for the link...I'll look at it now...

So far it seems that the A500/1000 Zorro edge connector is VERY close to the A2000 CPU slot with the only inconsistencies of matching pins being 7, 9, and 11. It's not as consistent when comparing a Zorro II slot - which is different to what I initially thought. Will look into it further...
