SAS C/C++ 6.0 complete package
« on: October 15, 2009, 11:05:56 PM »
I sell my complete package of SAS C/C++ Version 6.0. Version 6 is the last package that was delivered from SAS. Most C-parts of the AmigaOS are coded with this packages.

What you get:

SAS C/C++ Version 6.0

Disk 1-7

SAS/C Development System User's Guide

SAS/C Development System Library Reference

SAS/C Development System Quick Reference Guide

original Inlays for the disks

I do ask EUR 50,- plus shipping or best offer. I would also trade for other amiga items.

Actually 6.50 was and the last patches only apply to that, but ok the manuals were likely unchanged for 6.50.

I've never seen any details about this. Source?

I have seen similar claims to this one from time to time and statements like "SAS-C was likely used within the Commodore Amiga offices for parts of the AmigaOS", but no concrete proof.  What other C compilers were popular during those days for the Amiga?  How much of the development work for AmigaOS was done on non-Amiga hardware?
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Shipping expenses are quite high, as the package weights more than 2 kg. Shipping to the USA is EUR 35,-.

I have no proof, but I recall this from discussions in the Usenet in the old days. The last time I read this it was from Thor (if I remember correctly). But I think that SAS/C was the most professional C-package of that time, so I assume it is very probable too.

One indication that Commodore favoured SAS is that nearly all of the self-contained examples in the Amiga RKMs state that they were compiled with SAS C (or its predecessor Lattice C) and have SAS specific compiling and linking instructions in the comments.

Advertisements for SAS/C in the North American Amiga magazines (Amazing Computing for sure) described it as the package used by Commodore for coding the OS.
