Amitcp proxy settings ?
« on: October 03, 2009, 12:12:32 AM »
I finally managed to get my 3com network card to work, file transfers ok!
My PC has a internet connection, and I want share it with my A1200, how do I do it ? I dont understand how to determine the proxy to Voyger browser using AmiTCP/IP 4.0 demo version.
Also remember there is a quide/thread for this subject, just can't find it anywhere when I need it :hammer:...Thanks

It's directly connected to internet without any router? Then you must set from PC to let it share the connection. You must have LAN setup on it as well as internet. Then you can configure the Amiga to use PC's LAN IP-address as gateway.

A lot easier option would be to have some sort of router there between the internet and your computers. For example a better ADSL box which would have router built-in, or stand-alone router between ADSL box and your own computers etc. Depending of your setup. Then you'd just connect all computers to that router and use same LAN settings for all and router as gateway or even as nameserver too.

I'd recommend you to get one if you don't already have.. they usually work as firewall too. You can get the cheapest ones under 20e, so it's not that bad investment :)

Yes, I have a router, the router has a adsl modem in it, and wifi, but I only use it to network my miggy and pc via network cables. Internet connection is established by a 3G modem (huawei), and I want share it with my amiga. Since the "router" is not connected to the internet via adsl, is it possible to share the 3G modem connection with it? Sorry if this is confusing...
So my setup is like this : USB 3G modem to pc's USB port - pc to router by RJ45 cable - from router to amiga 3com network card by RJ45 cable.

Ok, and if your LAN works between Amiga and PC currently, then you'd just need to share the 3G internet to rest of the computers (amiga). I think there should be option for it in Windows, but as I'm not a PC user, I've never tried it :) I would imagine that when you find that and check your Amiga's configuration, it should work. For Amiga you need to define PC's LAN address as gateway and define correct DNS (nameserver) address.. you can dig that out from PC's config.

Yes, the 3G connection is shared, works with xbox360 ...I just remember that I didnt configure the DNS (name server) to AmiTCP, how can I change it without reinstalling, because then I would have to edit the startup and amitcp configure files again to work with my 3com card? So what amitcp file do I have to edit?

amitcp:db/resolv.conf

There should be line with NAMESERVER text and ip address after it.

Only lines in my resolv.conf are :

;Domains names
DOMAIN amiga
DOMAIN kone

But I reinstalled the whole damn thing, set the nameserver to 192.168.0.1, same as the gateway IP and my Windows XP gave me a strange notification when I tried to open google.com etc. pages :
"theres been a conflict with another IP on the network"? Never seen this happen ...
Now when I reinstalled and saved the nameserver, there is the line nameserver in the resolv.conf file...

It would have been enough to add the line without reinstall too.

You're sure you have unique actual ip address for the amiga? I don't know if Windows acts as dns server when sharing the connection... you might try putting your ISP's recommended nameserver (check what your windows has got). And one domain should be enough.. not necessary any..
