Whats the best?
« on: August 17, 2009, 04:48:30 PM »
Having used Amikit ever since it came out to this day, I am more than pleased with it, how ever not ever used Amiga Forever, I have to ask myself what is the best out of the 2?

Is there any real advantage form one to the other?

What is best?
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you... and to hear the lamentation of their women!

In other words, Amithalon!!!

Amithlon and Amiga Forever/Amikit are not comparable since Amithlon emulated only the 68k CPU, not the custom chips. Amithlon is therefore not appropriate for running a lot of classic software. Rather than suggesting software which isn't related to what the OP asked, how about answering the question

Sadly no, Amiga Inc broke it's longstanding tradition of inactivity to send a threatening letter to Amithlon's creator and he decided it was better not to get in a legal tussle with Amiga Inc.

Anyway, Hopefully after Amiga Inc passes away he'll pick up the pieces, but I worry that he's moved on.

I`m not sure what you mean.  Shirley it must emulate the custom chips or else Workbench wouldn't work on it...

Anyway the only Amiga emulator i've ever properly used is the excellent WinUAE, so i'll butt out at this point :)

AFAIK it uses RTG and RTA to circumvent the need for custom hardware emulation to run the OS.

On topic: I never used Amiga Forever. For me that is only the way to legally buy the roms to use with the emulation if you don't actually have the hardware. I don't know if it offers an updated Workbench like AmiKit

AmiKit just didn't feel Amiga like to me so I don't use it anymore.

AmigaForever has a nice 3.x Workbench with truecolor networking, apps, etc. I don´t know AmiKit, but I heared a rumor that there wouldn´t be much difference. The bonus of the Premium Edition of Amiga Forever is that it includes a VHS-quality Version of Dave Haynies Deathbed Vigil along with other Amiga-History Videos.

The CD is bootable (KXlight/Linux) and boots directly into an emulated workbench. I haven´t figured out how to make it "see" additional removeable media to really make something useful with it, however.

My version is the 2008 edition.
