WTT Original Apple II for Amiga System
« on: July 18, 2009, 06:31:52 AM »
Hello,  I'm a long-time admirer of the Amiga but have never owned one.  I owned an original Apple II back in the day.  I now have several of those original systems as well as a couple of the IIGS with accelerators, SCSI drives, etc.

I would like to trade one of those systems for a sweet Amiga setup if anyone is interested.  I've posted in Apple forums but there aren't as many Amiga owners there - not surprisingly.  I thought there might be a few collectors on this side of the aisle who appreciate both systems.

If you want more specifics about the configuration of any system please send me a PM with what you have for trade.  At a bare minimum I will need a 2500.

Thanks.

If I were you, I'd start by picking up an A500 or A1200 from Ebay übercheap... or and IMHO the better solution would be to buy the AmigaForever emulation package for your PC :)

I agree with Bloodline... get AmigaForvever.. its a great package and the DVD videos are worth the price you pay for the entire package.

I did look at AmigaForever and wondered if it was a good value.  I presume the most comprehensive package is the one you're talking about?  I didn't pay much attention to the DVD's though.  I'll take a trip back and explore what it is they contain.

I've gone down the emulation road and it was somewhat enjoyable, but I really prefer using the original hardware if at all possible.  That's why I posted here, so my original offer still stands.  Thanks for the replies.

The problem with real hardware, if you don't have a library of original Amiga disks... getting software onto the machine is just a pain... with emulation, you can just use diskfiles, and the emulator has built in networking support if you want to take the old OS online for some reason.

Also each different spec of Amiga has various incompatibilities with certain software... the Emulator allows you to adjust the "hardware" spec to suit the software. For me the value of of machines is certain software/games that never got ported to more modern systems, thus why I prefer emulation over hardware now.

Defo get yourself a real bit of kit though, but don't spend too much... it's just not worth it.
