Epson SMD-340 HD floppy
« on: September 29, 2008, 05:24:05 PM »
Does anyone used an Epson SMD340 drive on the Amiga? It appears to be a HD Amiga floppy.

If not, I will transform it in a regular 880kb drive, what could be a shame on those nice 1.76Mb drives.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Mean.

This is the first time I've even seen this thread.

I have an Epson SMD-1300 for sale if that helps. See my signature links.

 Thanks, Weird.

The drives are different. Tomorrow I'll convert the unit to Amiga standard and test it.

Sorry for the hard words, people.

Only as an ordinary DD drive. The motor wheel is not heavy enough to rotate in 150 RPM "smoothly".:-(

Sigh... Back to the never-ending search for a FZ357...

@rkauer: I know it's an old thread,
But could you tell me how did you manage to let an Epson smd-340 work
as internal drive on Amiga 1200?
Thank you!

The SMD-340 drives work great on Amiga. I have one installed in A1200 MagicBox. Here is a blurry screenshot of jumpers taken from my video. You can try to match the jupers with my drawing. I don't have time to take the apart the system, but for sure one jumper is set to DF0, the others I'm not sure. I stuck a jumper table paper on top of the drive so I will not forget how I got it to work.
BUT there is one major thing you need to do is to jumper the PIN2 to 34 on the floppy cable, with out it it will not recognize the disk change.
Maybe in the near future I will disassemble the system and get a more details.
