OS4 Deneb users...
« on: May 27, 2009, 01:54:00 PM »
To anyone that has a Deneb card and is running OS4:

Are you interested to put a bounty together to have a developer write a loader for the OS4 Kickstart? So it can be put in the Deneb flash and be resident on first boot.

I would start off the bounty with $50.00...

But just trying to see if there is interest?

Thanks

Hm, not really. I would have to disable it somehow when I will boot into 3.9, MOS or Debian.

What about a boot menu where you can select wich OS to boot into?

The MOSLoader has an activation or deactivation key, what would stop someone doing the same for an OS4 loader?

I don't really know. Maybe I just don't get it at the moment.

Well maybe it would be possible to modify the early startup menu itself to allow to boot into different "Kickstarts", eg. MorphOS, OS4, or OS 3.x.

For example on Macs you hold down the Option key at power-on and you can select to boot from different partitions or the CD drive.  Maybe you could select different "areas" of the Deneb flash, if it was segmented.

But the goal was to be able to put the OS4 Kickstart files into the Deneb Flash to make it resident at boot.  Such capability already is there as you pointed out for MorphOS and OS 3.x kickstart updates.

If it was possible to also allow switching between resident MorphOS or OS4 or OS 3.x BB2 updates, that would be superb.

But I am ready to kick off a donation/bounty if we get some initial interest.

as for now i hold modified 3.9 kick in flash. i just prefer it this way since i do not use os4 as frequently as 3.9. if there was a way to define several sets of files in flash to be enabled or dísabled on boot so that a residents for a corresponding os were ready to use, it would be a nice feature, but otherwise im fine atm.

You could try posting this at amigaworld.net or utilitybase.com, more OS4 devs at these places.
