Jim Butterfield, 6502 Programming Guru, Has Passed Away
« on: July 01, 2007, 06:28:11 PM »
For those of you who do not know, Jim Butterfield was one of the pre-eminent authors and programmers for the 6502 CPU going all the way back to the MOS Technologies KIM-1 kit computer.

Our condolences to his family.

Terrible, terrible :boohoo:

He will be missed! What a man, he was active until modern times in comp.sys.cbm. We all will die one day, but still... What a sad day
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Jim was a great guy...I had the privledge to do the tech work for GENIE on a on-line conference with Jim.  We used my SX-64 live from a hotel room in San Francisco.  Tons of folks crowded in the room...and loads of beer!  Jim did love a brew as I recall..

Sad day indeed...I'm raising a glass in toast to Mr. Butterfield.  Thanks for everything...

I just went through his address at York Uni - very interesting stuff, quite a guy he was apparently - may he rest in peace.

I remember seeing Jim at the World of Amiga shows in Toronto.  Most of the younger crowd walked right by him not recognizing the face.  I gave him a nod and he acknowledged me with a smile.  I hope I made him feel like his vast contribution to the Commodore community had not gone unappreciated.  Does anyone remember watching any of the TV shows he was on?

Thanks, Jim.  Without you I probably wouldn't have wound up in computers, something I truly love.  God speed.
