New IFF format released: GSM (Gesture & Motion Signal)
« on: February 06, 2007, 12:20:37 PM »
The IFF format "GSM " (sic) has been officially released.

This is an open format for the digital representation of gestures and motions. It has been developed by ACROE (Association pour la Creation et le Recherche sur les Outils d'Expression). All documentation for the format is English.

The specification and support materials are available from the IFF FORM and Chunk Registry at http://members.optusnet.com.au/jrjacobs76/reg/iff.html

Sounds interesting...but what is the purpose of this format?   will it work with things such as SCALA, Deluxe Paint, Brilliance, PPaint?

Will the so called Gestures and movements also work?  what exactly do you mean by gestures and motion signal?
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Er...no, of course not.

It's all explained fully in the docs.

But why IFF when something like this in XML would be a more senciable way of doing things like this today.

Or am I missing out on some advantage of IFF has over XML format.

Why would XML be any better? XML is more bloated and less Amiga-friendly.

XML is supported in Amiga OS4 with Pref admin tool PrefsObjectsEditor.

You have to stop being so romantic over Amiga formats ideas as formats like IFF are no more.  Even Microsoft get's it now, there new Office software writes documents in there XML DTD format.

XML is not supported in OS3.x though.

IFF is a platform-independent format, not an Amiga format. Eg. Audio IFF.

I don't know what you mean "formats like IFF are no more", this is incorrect, there are still new IFF FORMs being developed and the old FORMs are still in use.

And who cares what Microsoft does.
