A bit off topic, but when I used my A3000/040 I had a program that would patch some 68k math functions in binaries.  Anyone know what it was called?  It really helped.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

A few tips..

Systempatch: *replaces* both BlazeWCP and
FText, the speedups according to P96Speed
are identical. Plus, it speeds up some other
areas as well by patching graphics.library.
Make sure to use "NOUTIL" tagline with
060 and maybe 040, "NOLAYERS" tagline if you
have problems with PPaint, and finally use
the "NOEXEC" tagline if you're running a
modified exec OR perhaps latest exec from BB2.

Run exec.library in fastram, this provides quite
a speedup (measureable with benchmarks). This can
be done for instance with Blizkick localfast
option. You may also want to modify/fix
exec.library  with something like "Exec44".

PatchMult64: Speeds up a few rarely used math
functions.

Try running FBlit in exclude mode (promotes
everything unless you specify otherwise).

HSMathLibs are also great.

Executive works fine for me???

I have *never* had a duplicable crash resulting
from properly setup and well - coded patches,
and my system is overall faster and more stable.

On a 68060 system Cyberpatcher often speeds up FPU stuff, but there are still situations where it has to be disabled. :-x
So you have the strings in your palm. Do you know what they are for?

because the guy needs speed improvements, and Executive on a 68040 with 16MB of ram, is not the right choise IMHO.

I think that Executive is a great tool for
making the most out the performance you've got.

A little off subject maybe...

SmartFileSystem

Found this a real performance boast, particularly when handling large files like .mpg movies it improved the playback speed, font listers and the like are also lightning fast now.

But read the instructions and backup your data! I had no trouble installing SFS but it could be a horrible experience if you don't have you're HD backed up.

I'd just like to add that I used to run executive on 040 @25MHz + 16Mb and it was fine.

I also run it on my BlizzPPC + 64Mb, and it is still fine.

Other than using some ram and adding a small overhead to task switching for the statistics processing (not noticable in my experience), I can't see what the problem is.

As long as you read the documentation properly and correctly set it up for your needs it works extremely well in my opinion. Both my systems have proven far more responsive and better behaved under heavy load than using statically assigned task priorities.

i use those already

RemApollo

i used to use that until i started messing with the mmu libs and used that version instead. i'll probably switch back though

Dopus Magellan II

i already use it. it's bloody nice. Dopus + visualprefs + newicons is where most of my resources go as far as i can tell. interestingly i've locked my entire 32 color pallette to the newicons set. or at least i've tried because:

pointer prefs steals 4 of the colors so you have to set them in that! unless there's an alternate pointer prefs thing out there somewhere thats fullpallete compatible

dopus only lets you use the 8 global wb colors for custom buttons etc and you have to specify your own in dopus, which then allocates them instead of checking if they're there or not... if only it could be hacked to be properly fullpallete compatible :-)

if wish bloody everything was FP compatible, basically!

anyway, i dont "NEED" more speed i was just curious what patches were floating about out there that i might not have heard of! heh
