And in other news, Amiga Inc. announced that AmigaAnywhere™ applications can be launched by double-clicking a shortcut. ;-)

U3 looks like another value-added autorun.inf payload to me. (See DemoShield. And WTF? When did MacroVision buy InstallShield? B------s!)

Come on.  Lets not be TOO synical. Just another piece of news dedicated to something that may or may not happen.  We are being kept abreast of positive moves at Amiga Inc.

Never heard of the U3 platform myself but at least Amiga Inc are moving in the right circles these days.

I wish they would deliver more than Atari 2600 game clones. :/
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

Ditto.

The future of computing -- games that can be done as well in Java and a lot better in Flash.

They're not just any old clone though, they also add "let consumers enjoy rich-media content featuring extraordinary audio-visual quality"

What else would you expect from "the world’s premier provider of multimedia enabling technologies" ?
On schedule, and suing

Lets be frank.  All the users of U3 will be ignorant of Amiga unless Amiga goes out there and sells it product(s).  How much software is available currently that will run on "AA" and how are they going to inform others?

Amiga is mentioned as a partner on the U3 website here:

http://www.u3.com/content.aspx?PS=software&PN=overview

If you don't know what U3 is, then here is the FAQ:

http://www.u3.com/presskit/u3_faq_0505.pdf

As you can see all of the major USB-memory manufacturers are going to support U3 devices. So this could be big step forward for the Amiga Inc.

I'm confused.  Essentially this says people can run AA games off of a memory stick, which is certainly not anything new (considering they were demoing that with PDAs in 2001).

Maybe I missed something?

You didn't miss anything. U3 is currently Windows-specific, and it doesn't provide anything that couldn't have been done using well-documented Windows programming guidelines beginning with the release of Windows 95 and its support for autorun.inf on all removeable media. U3 does, however, save developers time (i.e. they can once again ignore Microsoft's guidelines and the benefits of a common operating environment). Ever wonder why Macs and Amigas are so easy to use? For some strange reason, developers on those platforms actually design user interfaces that are consistent with the operating system.
