2004 Ottawa Amiga Show Report
« on: November 22, 2004, 07:49:28 PM »
 by Darren Eveland (HammerD)

The show took place on Saturday November 20th in chilly Ottawa! (At least it didn't rain).  MicroA1's were for sale at the show and several users bought them! (including me :).  At the show Livewire systems http://www.livewiresystems.ca was showing off various Elbox products and of course the MicroA1.  They were selling the board at a special show price of $1000.00 CAD.  A special thanks goes out to Adam of Ack Controls for working so hard to get the MicroA1's to the show.

You can read the rest of his report with videos and pictures here.

I don't know why, but I was always thinking the A1 was supposed to be a card that goes into an IBM machine. Did they change that to motherboard or did I get something mixed up? I'm glad it's its own deal instead of a stupid card. Now I don't have to ponder the "is it an Amiga or is it really a Windows box with a card" question. :-)

@weirdami
  Huh? Haven't you been paying attention or are you trying to be funny?
I don't get it.

@Argo

I wasn't trying to be funny. Wasn't the A1 supposed to be a card of some sort at one point? I'm just glad it's not and I just realised that it wasn't.

the A1 has always been a mobo, there was going to be at one point, a extra card u could to expanion port, that had all the custome hardware on it, so it was backward compatiable with aga and other hardware banging progs, but that idea was scapped after the early prototypes

Are you referring to the "Access" Amiga units from Index Information ltd?

:-? I remember seeing something like that, though I don't remember what it was called.  It was a while back, a year or more, so the details may be fuzzy.  The unit that I remember fit inside a PC's 5¼" drive bay, and included its own 3½" floppy DF0:, and 2½" hard drive.  Connections to the PC's motherboard allowed for sharing of the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.  I recall thinking that it appeared to be a solution in search of a problem; I couldn't think of anything that someone could need it for.

As I recall, only a few made, and Olegil had ordered one, though I don't remember hearing more after that.
