Developer Feedback Day
« on: April 14, 2004, 01:13:45 AM »
Staring at another news item in your browser?  Listening to tunes with your favorite MP3 player? How about watching a movie, playing a game, using a database, or simply writing an email?

Well, let that developer know that you are using their software!  Find the About Box in the menu of your applications, and send those software authors an email!  Don't stop there either!  Write the artists who made your favorite icons or backdrops!  Send an instant message IRCops, and in general let those folks know you appreciate thier efforts.

April 14 (GMT) is now Developer Feedback Day!

---more---

Day in and day out, developers often don't see feedback from their efforts, saving for the day of a new release.  Believe it or not, even updates don't always ensure feedback.

All of us are guilty of procrastination, "I'll email the author tommorrow," but tomorrow never gets here.  Well, I ask everyone to take an extra minute today to open the about box--right after starting your software, and email that author!

Old or new, try their email address, at least you will know you've tried to show some appreciation.  Who knows?  Your effort might get an update, a native port, or even save a developer from depression!  Is it an old 68k app?  Write them anyway!

Whatever software you use, please take the time to provide them a little feedback today!  They deserve it, and YOU might be the one to benefit!

Moderators note: Excellent idea Targhan! I urge everyone to let people know your gratefull for ther efforts - Ryu
Regards,
Targhan

Thanks for approving and supporting the idea Ryu and Wayne.  The idea was born after seeing a couple of developers making comments about not getting feedback on things that *I knew* people were using.

It's easy to fall into a complatency (spelling?) trap.  It's even easier since we've all been exposed to the Windows world, where the majority of users never even *try* to contact the software author.  We all, myself included, really should be better about giving that feedback.
Regards,
Targhan

"complacency"

I use Google as my standard spell checker

This is a great idea - as usual!
:knuddel:

It fits right in with my "Amiga Hero's" concept!

The community is what is important, and we should support each other with encouragement and TLC!

the obligatory

hey! here's an idea: what about people who aren't on their Amiga/MOS/emulation at the moment? (can't get their About menu) How about a little online list. or something online where people can make public statements and the developer can see what everyone is saying at once?

not that this should stop anyone from sending private messages.

But a public forum may actually help to introduce some new people to these programs as well as document peoples' reactions. this might help continued development because people can talk about what tings they would like to see changed or added.
I'm just talking off the top of my head (which has sometimes been proven to be quite pointed), but maybe this can be turned into a useful idea!

A software review forum with each thread dedicated to a product?  Maybe not such a bad idea.  It could get rather involved to manage.  Too bad Aminet doesn't have that kind of ability, sort of like Amazon product reviews.

That would be huge. We'd need an army of admins.
